Okay guys, it is settled. I will soon join the ranks of being a Polk Audio owner.
I will be buying one of the fallowing sets; determining factor is my wifes final approval (LOL).
1.
Front - Rti6
Center CSI5
Rear Rti4
2.
Front Rti8
Center CSI5
Rear Rti4
Both set will be powered with my NAD T753 and both will be powered with two Definitive Technology Pro Sub 100TLs.
This is my floor plan; TV wall (family room left side of photo) is 17 wide to the divider, then about another 15 to the front of the house. The wall facing the back yard is 12 to the nook and then another 25 or so to the stove in the kitchen. The ceilings are 8 tall.
Been trying to tell my wife that the bigger mains will most likely be better for us do to the open funky rooms. Thanks for any help or suggestions you may have.

Number 1.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I have the #2 setup. Love it! Completely rocks for HT. I recommend that, and the towers aren't really that big. My wife actually loves the black and they go swell with our Black Leather furniture.
#2 it is!Honoured to be, an original SOPA founding member

Either setup would work fine for that room size. The use of directional, or traditional, loudspeakers for surround duty is a good idea given the rear layout. If you go 6.1....go for a ceiling mounted speaker(s) for aesthetics, as they would great for that application.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

For an open floor design, you'll want the biggest floorstanders and sub(s) you can buy. At least Option #2.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I agree with the subwoofer, but to many people get hung up on size for HT....it's not that neccesary.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

When you factor in the cost of stands for the RTi6's, the RTi8s might make more sense. Compare the pricing of the two options with the stands included.Main theater: Paradigm Studio 100's v4 L/R, CC690 Center, ADP 590 x4 Surrounds. Whichever you chose, get the cherry veneer, you'll get a higher resale value. I'd go for the RTi8's, but be warned they are a bit bright, so if you have a low ceiling, and not much sound absorbtion materials, you may not like what you hear.Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

Thanks for the heads up on the finish:) . I will work with the acoustics as much as possible. I will be powering the speakers with the NAD T753, which should be matched with speakers on the somewhat "bright" end.TV - Sony 36" KV-36FV27

I say option 2. I have 8s 3 and the 4s.
But you could opt for 8s in front 5 centre and buy a sub. get the rears later. -

I would suggest #2 setup. Why? You have a lot of volume to fill up. The 6s would do the job, but on the long run you would be a lot happier you got the Rti8s. 8s would give you a fuller soundstage and are awesome for HT.
Agree with markmarc the Rti8s are a little bright, but some people like it. At the end of a day the brightness is a personal preference. The 6s have the same silk tweeter so they will be bright as well.
Also, Nelson57 is right on the ball with the cost of stands. Stands for my surround Rti6s cast me $160.00. Take that $$ and get cherry Rti8s and by done with it.
Welcome to Polk addiction.

Actually we have had both types, stand mounts and towers. She really prefers the stand mounts, but can live with the towers. Basically comes down to money I suppose. I believe we are going with the tower combo .TV - Sony 36" KV-36FV27

How about option #3...you could go with 4-Rti6's and the Csi5 for about the same money. Maybe make some speaker stands yourself. I really like the sound of keeping all the drivers the same. This would also allow you to later add some Rti8's for a 7.1 system if you wanted and you would still have 6" drivers all around.
Just a thought, however, I don't think you can go wrong really with either of the setups you listed.
