    Citerion always comes through...
Rushmore and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas sit prominently on my shelf
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Ugh, I HATED Rushmore. God-awful movie. Dazed&Confused however... awesoem.

What is Criterion? Is it like some sort of higher-quality capture or somethin'?

They usually do up DVDs in a bigger way than any of the other releases, but it's kind of considered an 'elite' club among directors to have their films admitted into them. Often the movies found in the Criterion Collection are considered too 'artsy' for some, but most are very good films. Seven Samurai, for example, is a Criterion Collection film.

If I know I like a movie and it has a Criterion Collection version I always buy that.

    For this DVD:

Dazed and Confused is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Black bars at the top and bottom of the screen are normal for this format. Director Richard Linklater and director of photography Lee Daniel supervised this new high-definition digital transfer, which was created on a high-definition Spirit 4K Datacine from a 35mm interpositive. Thousands of instances of dirt, debris, and scratches were removed using the MTI Digital Restoration System. To maintain optimal image quality through the compression process, the picture on this dual-layer DVD-9 was encoded at the highest-possible bit rate for the quantity of material included. The soundtrack was mastered at 24-bit from the original stems, and audio restoration tools were used to reduce clicks, pops, hiss, and crackle.

There was a Robocop Criterion......not a very 'artsy' movie, but I understand what you mean. Most of the criterions I've never even heard of.

If anyone has the Robocop Criterion....I hate you.....because I want it.

And I may actually pick this up. This youngin' finally saw Dazed and Confused for the first time last fall and I loved it. I wish highschool was like that for me, I wouldn't have hated it so much.

Unfortunately that's what these DVDs usually sell for after the initial release. I think that $25 will be the 'sale' price when this one hits the store in June.

Wow, thats pretty cheap for that. Almost retail isnt it? When I made an attempt to get it one time a while back, it was going for close, if not more, than 100.

I decided it wasn't really worth getting something like that if it was OOP.

Got mine for $26.00 today at Best Buy, and it's chock full of everything including a nice DTS soundtrack. It was the only copy they had.

I just picked up this movie and watched it last night. Awesome! I spaced out just watching it. For me it started a little slow but afte a short while I felt almost as if there were people around me partying. At one point I noticed I was watching it intently and found myself in a totally different world. The content of the movie didn't seem that significant to me but I felt very much a part of the story. This is an exceptionally well made movie. I can't even tell you why and that may be the key.

No, not at all. Except of course for that guy who just hung around after high school, the girl he liked (the redhead) and maybe a few people at the field party. I kinda remember noticing that back in the day some people looked too old too. The drugs maybe?

Edit: I did notice that it was hard at first to tell some of the boys from the girls. The hair thing, very noticeable. True to the time though.

Most of the actors seem to have been in their early 20's at the time, based on IMDB profiles. Not that far off, age-wise.

WOW, if this really was telecined at 4k from 35mm negatives then this picture quality should be right at unsurpassable. I would love to see something like this done at 720 or 1080 HD, would almost be as if you had an imax in your house.
