Gotcha....I think the upgrade path would be:
    1. skim
    2. 1%
    3. 2%
    4. Whole
    5. Butter milk
    6. Grab an utter and get to it!

Another so called expert. You think you know everything there is to know about milk and the "Proper" upgrade path. You need to quit just repeating what other, (wiser) people have already said elsewhere. You failed to address the most important aspect of milk upgrades....the source!

You added butter to buttermilk? I'd still use skim and get fat free buttermilk.

So do you think it would be a good idea to start with the skim tomorrow, then in a few months go for the buttermilk? Is that what you're telling me to do Steve? I think this sounds ok, but I want to know what everyone else thinks. I'm not sure if everyone agrees wtih you Steve, so that might make you stupid for not knowing what they know.....

What do you guys think? Is Steve smart enough to give me this advice?

Skim is so bourgeoisie that I would not even go there. In fact if you start lower than 2% you are wasting your time and money.

The true upgrade path for milk is to start with pints. A pint of 2% then a pint of whole when the upgrade bug hits.

A mention needs to be made about the utter. The cow itself makes a world of difference.

Ayrshire= decent starter utters but the desire to upgrade will remain strong.
Brown Swiss= good source for chocolate but you did not ask for choclate.
Guernsey & Jersey= almost interchangeable although some believe the medicinal value of Guernsey surpasses the Jersey.
Holstein- Friersian are truely top of the line in my opnion although I do like a good mix from time to time.
Bull= not very good milk and hard to get out of the utter although in some European countries Bull milk is considered a delicacy.

Hersheys has a bad reputation for the way it is hoarding the Hearshey name.
They believe they have exclusive rights to the name Hershey.

I hear they are going to sue the town of Hershey Pensylvania to change their name.

Rediculous and I won't support that kind of behavior.

Have you tried coconut milk? Gotta be the best. If you haven't tried it you can't say you don't like it. You should try it, seriously you'll like it better than the other choices. It's really the only logical choice at this point in your milk quest. Listen to me and try the coconut milk, get the coconut milk. It comes from coconuts, ya know on the inside of the nut after you open it. It hard so be careful. It's from a coconut and it good so try it. You drink it and it tastes like coconut milk. Really it's the choice. If you can't find it, don't stop looking until you find it!

There have been many fine suggestions here, and ultimately it comes down to personal preference.

Remember the following things when considerring.
The milk is part of a larger equation. You will not get the most out of the milk if the other parts of the system are sub-par.
Good milk is always best from the source (teat) as previously mentioned. However as the source ages it loses some of the qualities that made it favorable in it's youth, and it can produce favorable results to upgrade the source components as they age. Many prefer to upgrade the source components to larger than original stock size. :D
Eventually you need to get off the pot and make some decisions. We would be happy to assist you with the final mix.
I've attached some photos of a very well matched system that I use. There are times this system is pure Nirvana.

I can see Polk Thug uses a very similiar system. As you can clearly see in his photo, the source components are kept in pristine condition and are not in need of upgrade at this time.

Brett, what's the big deal about finding the right grade of milk? why is it so urgent?

For dieting, doctors and nutrionists will always suggest skim milk. For everyone else 1% or 2% is probably all you need.

    Buttermilk? UGH! Gross out.

    Soy milk ? Coconut milk ? 1 % ? 2 % !

Pshaw. I myself, a true afficionado of milk, have gone to the ultimate by studying the lowly ant.

Ants will herd aphids, those little bugs you find on roses.

They'll stoke the backs of the aphids who then secrete a milky substance that the ants find nutritional and delicious.

That's what I've been doing lately. Those aphids are a little tough to spot amongst the thorns, though. I've found that if you just pick a spot that looks good and start licking, 7 times out 10 you'll have positive results.

Watch out for crossover, though, from any nearby tomatoe plants. Those darn tomatoe worms not only don't taste too good, they bite.

So..... if you're a true milk fan like me, you'll only drink the milk from the back of aphids !

Also be aware of the interconnects from your source to your mouth. Plastic allows easy glide of the milk but seems to hold back some of the bottom end. Glass is nice but tends to cool down very quickly causing chills in the fingers and lips. I prefer crystal. Some people say that you cannot tell the difference in drinking milk from crystal as compared to say Walmart glasses. Well no matter what the tests tell you, let your LIPS BE THE JUDGE!

Of course you could go directly from the source. However you risk the chance of repercussions (i.e. a hoof to the face).

No matter what you choose, be sure to post pictures and give us that:
    GOT MILK? smile.
