Pre-amp or receiver - best processor for the money

Have searched the forum extensively but not found an answer to my search:

Just sold my Denon 330 this evening, so I need a preamp/processor/receiver unit to run my HT. What is the best HT processor for the money today?

Thanks to other polkie, I have several amps to work with now and I would need a receiver with ability to run surrounds in a 5.1 or 7.1 setup OR get a processor and an extra amp?

I have heard that the Denon 1803 and 2803 series has a great processor part with BurrBrowns etc, but before I take the leap it would be very useful to hear your experience and advice on which way to go.

* Receiver unit with pre-outs and a quality processor for both HT and music
OR
* PrePro + xtra amp

Has anyone used a receiver as a prepro for music as well? If so, which one? I guess I should mention I can go older models with only 5/1 DTS/DD if it means I get a heck of a unit at major discount.

I have now quality units in the SDA-1c and SDA-1 and Rotels, I would hate to lose all that to a poor processing unit.

Thanks.

just depends on where you want to take your system.. for some folks a receiver is the way to go. for others.. seperates works better.

I have owned Pioneer and Marantz receivers... while they did what they were designed to do... they did not meet my expectations on sound quality. So two months ago I purchased an Outlaw Audio 990 pre amp. Since I already had the needed amps, a pre amp was a no brainer.

Check out the Outlaw Audio 990 pre amp. While not perfect by any means... it does offer nice features.. and you can't beat it for the price either. Sound quality is quite good... i consider it equal in sound quality performance to the B&K Ref50 IMHO. For less $$ too.

So my suggestion is for that pre amp for you.. plus you can demo it in your home, with your amp for 30 days, then either keep it or ship it back.

I have used the Marantz SR6300 as a pre-pro for both Music and HT. Does a great job at it but I needed to replace it's mains cable with an Audiophile grade mains cable. One of the best upgrades I ever did. :)
Gear: Rotel RC 1082, Rotel RSP 1068 pre/pro, Rotel RMB1077 amp, Cayin CDT 15a CD player, S301 bluray.

Speakers: Tannoy DC sensys speakers, Paradigm Servo15 Sub, Velo Spl-1500r

    Conditioner: Isotek :D

Good question. I too am considering an AVP. Looking for something to replace the Yamaha RX-V1500 and compliment the Proceed AMP5. I wonder what other folks are using as separates.

I just hooked up one of these for my wife's system. It still needs the long setup process but it sounded pretty good last night on the SDA 2 - CRS surround. She likes the simplicty of the remote volume control and not having to wait on the tubes to warm up on my rig. Its a high current receiver.
