Fun with Dick & Jane: two thumbs down, I don't think I even cracked a smile during the whole movie. The only reason I watched the whole thing was boredom.

Memoirs of a Geisha: VERY GOOD. Chick flick? Maybe. Very interesting story about the life of a geisha; culminating into a love story. Strong story line, keeps you interested. I enjoyed this movie.

I haven't seen either one and would have bought Dick and Jane but passed on the Geisha flic.
now I will have to re-think the Geisha movie.
I still have to see Dick and Jane for my self.

I actually enjoyed Dick and Jane. It wasn't one of Jim's best flicks that's for sure, but common, you had to at least crack a smile once or twice! I laughed out loud in a few parts. 5 outta 10 and worth a once see.

Haven't seen the second. What is it about? Prostitutes?

Memoirs of a Geisha is currently residing in my mailbox courtesy of Netflix per wife's request, so maybe I can downgrade my sheer terror to that of mild apprehension.....

I did chuckle a bit during the coffee house robbery "honey, do you want cream?" was pretty funny.

I thought I was going to suffer thru Geisha (my wife picked it) but was very surprised and pleased with the movie, it's almost a documentary style film. The whole "Geisha" thing is very interesting and misunderstood--they weren't prostitutes, per se, but more like escorts to make rich men look good....a "status symbol" for the wealthy.

... actually, if anything, it looks like film offers somewhat of a visual feast.
Vibrants colors and so on....

Ugh, totally agreed on Dick and Jane. I had such high hopes, so maybe I was jsut let down so much that I hated it, where it was actually mediocre, but I can't tell. Carrey wasn't even vaguely f unny (and I usually crack up at him), and I always thought Tea Leoni was cute but that's not enoguh to carry a movie.

I have no desire to see Geisha.... just not my type of movie. I keep trying with those Chinese movies (Crouching Tiger, Hero) and get bored to tears every time.

OH... i like the prostitutes angle better Just kidding! I might have to pick it up and check it out with the wife.. See, she's the best, cause she likes slashers/vampires/horror as much if not more than I do. Sometimes I just have to say, ok, let's watch something relaxing tonight Trust me, it's a good problem to have!

The video quality of "Geisha" is very good.

My wife is a serious "girly girl." She doesn't like violence, scary stuff, action films, but will suffer thru them for me. She likes the "Fried green tomatoes" "Steel magnolias" stuff....

She's practically in my back pocket when we're watching something scary...LOL

My girlfriend and I went to see "Geisha" when it was in the theaters. I really enjoyed the first half of the movie but it just seemed to get bogged down in the last half...I really didn't like the ending, it just seemed phoney. Given this I still enjoyed it and would give it 5.5 or 6 out of 10!

The wife and I sat down to watch Memoirs of a Geisha last night, and I've gotta say, it was hard to take your eyes off of it. While the storyline was certainly geared toward the female contigent, the set designs and overall visuals were absolutely incredible. I know this may seem like an "off the wall" comment, but if George Lucas could infuse just one of his Star Wars films with the sense of wonderment and sheer exotic, other-worldly nature that I experienced during some of the scenes in this movie, than we wouldn't be lamenting the decline of his franchise. Simply put.. it just looked like a whole other world, completely alive and believable. Real movie magic IMO... and to think that it is based in the last century.. WOW!!!
