Magnet removed from tweeter (help)

I just received a pair of LS/fx that were not packed very well, and part of the damage was that one of the tweeter magnets had detached from the faceplate and dome. I reattached the magnet to the back of the tweeter, and it is held there magnetically. I tested it, and got sound.

Should this be the case? Have I adequately repaired the tweeter?

    It's highly unlikely that the voice coil is properly aligned in the gap, even though you may get sound. Some do have alignment pins, but still..

    I'd say it needs to be replaced. Call Polk. If there's a way to fix it, they'll tell you how. Or if you need to replace it, they can help with that too.

    Yeah, that's what I was wondering. It seems like it would take a jig of some kind to set it dead center. Hmm, let's see how the shipper responds...

    When the magnet snapped back into place, there was a squirt of what I assume is ferrofluid: looked like rusty oil. I guess that means it is really screwed, eh?

    I had the same thing happen to me on a pair of Rt400s. In my experience you cannot adequately repair that tweeter. The only solution is to replace the tweeter.
