Allright I was back in the woods at a party spot. Had my system on playing disturbed then this guy roll's up in a old Jeep cj5. He had on Metallica One .. Now he totally took out whipped out all audio coming from my jeep. His setup sounded so clear , loud and the bass was crisp and un real for a Jeep with no top. After I looked at it I could'nt understand it. He had a ported full range crunch box with 2 10 inch crunch's mids and tweets. on top was 2 pioneer truck box's 10 inch woofers with tweets, mids and ports facing up now all the 10 where up against the 2 front seats facing forward. now for the amp it was a power acoustic 300x2. I know it sounds rediculous but it sounded better then any other Jeep including mine. So this weekend I have to install a fuel sell and that means the back seat and the down firing box had to go. now I have room to run a setup like he had. Did he get lucky or can I duplicate what he had. I have better amps but is there subs or woofers that are designed for ported box's and that will take high's being put into them ..
I am still baffled to how his setup worked and sounded so awesome with the top off. with a bunch of junk. So hopefully with your guys help I can get this figured out. The bass from his ride and highs where better then how my stuff sounded maybe the fact forward facing he had and maybe the seats filtered out the distortion but anyway I want to try it. running a c300.2 I have run it full pass and both boxes in paralell..

Installation is everything. If he had his subs in a box specifically designed for those subs and properly built, and had his speakers installed correctly and properly powered and a bunch of other important things, it will perform well.
A properly installed setup using average equipment will almost always sound better than top shelf goods half **** thrown together.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

and you do mean that it sounded 'good', not 'loud', right? you can't mistake an overabundance of treble or deep bass for good detailIt's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon

True, and in a Jeep, with the top down and the thing blaring into the great otudoors, its going to sound better too because there is nothing for it to reflect off of. Thats the hardest part about car audio, early reflection.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Sorry been out of town.. I did take alot of time on my setup. I ran into the guy today . Asked a few questions. The hatchback box he was using was a full range factory crunch box and the truck box's on top where factory full range pioneer truck box's.. the amp is a 300x2 that looked like it was through world war II. Guess he got lucky he said everyone he has ran into cant get over it .. I gotta find out what subs or woofers out there that wont get destroyed by not having high freq. filtered out. I dont have much room for too many amps now. I have'nt really head any Jeep's sound good with the top off. As for his high's and low's they sounded crystal clear and well balanced for some reason. By looking at everything he had does'nt look at all that it was planned out but he had it set for easy removal .. He used a heavy duty 3 prong ext. cord and 1 set of rca's lol.. but hey it works.88 Wrangler 383 stroker 525hp 10 inch's of lift 38.5's

creepy... in any case, no subwoofer will be harmed by high frequencies - mine can actually audibly play cymbal crashes etc., because it's a metal cone ... the problem with high frequencies in a sub is that the higher the crossover point, the easier it is to localise the sub... e.g. i have mine xovered at 63 Hz right now... at 80 Hz i can sorta hear it 'somewhere back there', and at 100 Hz i can definitely hear that there's a sub in the trunk. It's not good, very fundamentally simply not good. - geolemon
