Nice catch!! Congrats to your son! I never could catch a fish with artificial worms BTW... spinnerbaits and plugs are what work best for me!
Ahhh yes...my favorite form of relaxation!!! There just arent too many issues that a few good hours spent on fishing wont cure!2 Channel Rig

I'm not much for fishing, although i will do it from time to time.. being in florida we have endless amounts of water. salt and fresh.. I'm a crabber myself, love catching em and eating em.. actually tomorrow morning i will be setting 3 commercial style crab pots for a sunday BBQ.. hope to get a good amount when i pull em on sunday morn. I also have a fresh water lake that's stoked and i pull channel cats out of there.. Its fun, specially on the boat by yourself or with a good partner to chat with...MY HT RIG:

Congrats to your son Mike!
I remember when my little brother was 7 years old and we were trolling for walleye when he snagged something. My dad didn't even bother to stop the boat since he always claimed to get a "bite" and nothing would come of the bite after we all reeled in to avoid tangles.
This time he snagged a 7lb. 1oz. walleye that actually was big enough to win the tournament. You should have seen my Dad scramble for the net as soon as that thing surfaced. It was classic!!

Nice Bass. Makes me wanna go fishin'...

Sweet. Reminds me of my first rainbow trout, caught on a $10 pole and a rubber worm.

take your son up to Mark Twain lake.
TONS of slab-sized crappie up there, he'd have a blast fishing until he couldn't fish anymore !
We go crawdad hunting the night before we go fishing.
We always take one pole that has a BIG round bobber (size of a good orange), hook the crawdad just underneath the back shell, put a small splitshot a couple of inches above the crawdad, and give 'em a toss.
....if you don't use that splitshot, sometimes the crawdads will climb up the line and ride on the bobber. Not many flying fish around here, so the crawdad has to stay in the water to do any good.
While we're fishing, we'll keep an eye on the bobber. Get a big bass circling the crawdad and that crawdad will go nuts, dragging that orange-sized bobber around like it was nothing. Something about that combo seems to drive bass nuts.
Any-who, good fishing.

Friend of mine keeps asking if I wanna go fishing.......
I'm like.....um.....who's gonna put that bait stuff on the hook? (he blankly stares).
Then I ask.......who's gonna hold the pole and wait for something to bite? (he starts to look confused)
Then I say if we did actually catch something, who's gonna remove it from the hook thing? (he says nevermind and walks away).......
We haven't gone out there yet...........:Dcomment comment comment comment. bitchy. -

We used to go to Mark Twain years ago, just to get away and enjoy the beach area.
We will have to get back one day and try our luck with the crappie.
We are very lucky to have a nice lake in our back yard approx. 7 acres...The lake is about 35 years old,and very well established.see attachment.
This past week our neighbor landed a 3lb. 12oz. Crappie, very nice fish for this area. The State record is 4lb. something.
We have caught some very nice Catfish and Bass over the years, the one my son landed last night was his best to date. -
We have a lake, too. It's an old mill pond, but the mill burned down years ago. It's great to walk out the door and go fishin', ain't it?

Indeed,I sometimes forget how lucky we are to have a fishin' hole out the back door...sometimes living in the middle of no where has its advantages -
Mike, KILLER back yard! I grew up in the country and five of our six neighbors had huge ponds (about two acres each) but nothing like that. Very nice.

Thank for all the comments, since that picture was taken there are three new homes on the other side of the lake...
GREAT neighbors,we are all getting together here this evening for a little cook out, plenty of cold beer and BS to go around:D -
I used to go fishing with my brother and dad when we were kids. My dad took us to a public lake on his days off. My mom would pack us lunches for the day. We use to catch night crawlers the night before, put them in a bait buck and early in the morning off we went. We never caught too many fish, but those are good memories. Now that my dad is gone, I remember those days by the lake, waiting and waiting. I miss my dad and just wish I could be out there on the lake talking about baseball and waiting for a bite.Carl
