Hey All -

Anyone have a good mechanic they trust in the Northern, VA (Sterling, etc) area? Need some help with the wife's car before she sells the SDA's to pay for new A/C compressor & condensor!

Thanks for any help

I know its not in Sterling but my mother and I have entrusted all of our car repairs to the same mechanic for the past 20 years...ask for Tony of Professional Auto Care in Woodbridge, VA. He provides quality and professionalism at a very reasonable price. I live in Front Royal, VA (over an hour away) and I still take my cars there to be serviced!

Hey - Thanks for the tips fellas!

98 Mazda Protege with 105K on her. Fried clutch in the A/C Compressor banging struts are bottoming out. (A/C no longer produced in two piece - must buy whole compressor I have been told) and it does need struts all around admitedly.

I am a fair shade tree mechanic (did brakes, shocks, full leaf sping suspension kit with lift and transfer drop on my Jeep by myself) so I think I could do the struts given the time - but they want $2200 for everything here and hell, the retail blue book isn't even that on the whole car!

I know the A/c will be top dollar - I am just plain pissed to be told that $220 worth of struts (of course I checked) are going to cost me $1200 including parts to install. BULLS_ _ T! That's like the $600 brake job scam.

OK - Rant is over now.

Thanks for the help - keep em coming if anyone has experience with the struts or a reasonable mechanic.

May want to check with your local parts store, Auto Zone, etc, they may have access to the Junkyard database. Swap it out, new O-rings, pull a vac., put $12 worth of R134a and you are good to go.

Hmmmm... you may be on to something here. Hadn't thought about used parts, thanks!
