I currently have 4 Pioneer 4"x6" speakers in my '89 chevy pick-up truck, and I want to upgrade soon. They don't sound bad or anything, i just want a more crisp sound. Have any of you guys heard the DB460s, and how are they? I have not had any dealings with Polk car audio so far, but if it is as good as the home audio gear, I am all for it. Any input would help.

Also, can I buy Polk car tweeters seperately. I know that the doors can be modified for 6 1/2" speakers, but I am trying to stay away from that for now.

You are not going to get any kind of sound that is comperable to a 6 1/2" component set from a set of 4x6" speakers.

I would reconsider doing a little more work and putting in the 6 1/2" speakers in there. I did something similar in my 1981 Monter Carlo. The 3 1/2" speakers in the dash were just not doing it. I tried a couple different ones, and then I just ended up cutting into the doors to get better sound.

I always thought the DB series sounded similar to the Monitor series. For the money, they are excellent speakers.

You could move up to a 5.25" speaker with probably no modifications. All you would have to do is either run down to Home Depot and get a 1/4" piece of plywood and cut you out an adapter or check with a local car audio shop and theyll probably have one you can buy.

This way you could get the DB5250 component set.

That would be something to look into. It will offer the best of both worlds, no cutting into the car, and getting a better sounding driver in there.

I just bought a whole sheet of 3/4" MDF last night :D. Have a couple of things I want to do....
