Hey everybody I just went to my local pawn shop today and am thinking about gettin this 3-channel amp to hook to my Onkyo TX-SR503 which is 75 watts per 7 channels. It's a ?Bogen? 3-channel amp 100 watts in first channel, 60 watts in 2nd channel, and 20 watts in 3rd channel. I have Pioneer floor standing front speakers, polk CS 1 center, paradigm bipole/dipole surround, polk monitor 40 rear surround. The pawn shop wants $160 for it. Would that be worth getting? And if so which speakers should I power?

That is weird. I don't think you would want different power ratings in different channels. I wonder what that amp was designed for? Someone else will probably know.

That's one of the things they do....basically commercial applications.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

Promatrix pm3180? Definitly for commercial use. Don't get it. I have used these for office/meeting/demo room background music and paging. Not at
all good for what you have planned. Also a pain in the butt to set up."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. definitely pass. Plus, your receiver doesn't give you preouts to add an amp so it won't help even if you did find an amp to work for ya.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Bogen's a very old audio name. Their vintage tube models are somewhat sought after. Obviously this is not one of them.
Agree...keep looking.More later,

Hey what about a Denon AVR-4806 it's THX certified plus PL IIx and Neo:6 also. It only goes down to 6ohm. Could I hook up at least a 5 channel amp to it or do I have to hook an amp strictly to just a processor?CURRENT SYSTEM:

If you want to start over, I'd say go Pre-Pro with power amp(s). While you could buy an AVR and then by-pass its amp section, that approach makes no sense to me and wastes $$$'s. You'd just be using the AVR as a Pre-pro.
On the other hand, if you like the features of your Onk, adding an outboard amp behind it for your mains and maybe your center does make sense. Most Onk's have Pre-outs. If yours does, your most economical path is clear, IMO.
See the recent "thx" thread for opinions on it.

or save the money on a 4806 and go with a 3806. With the saved money, you can put it towards a better amp. THX = overrated.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

I used to use a Bogen amp to boost a 1khz burst signal at work back in the
80's. It was an industrial piece not audio gear. The waveforms I observed were clean looking on the oscilloscope, so it might have worked. Probably not the best for audio. IMHO
