OK so I have slightly old mitsu 49" rptv. I recently got a new dvd player, And I just started noticing this problem now so it could hav been there for a while, not necceserilly related to the new dvd player. Ok, when i have the dvd player connected to the tv through component, I can notice when there llike white lettering or any thing white on a somewhat dark background I can see the white ghosting to to the left. Also a little below half the screen I can notice a red tint. All of this became apperent watching the dick and jane dvd. I thought It was just that dvd so i tried some others and its still there. If anyone here has seen the dick and jane dvd, on the menu the bottom half of dicks suit is tinted red and the big white letters are ghosting to the right. it does this on every dvd. But heres the thing, when i connect the dvd player to the tv through composite, all the problems go away. What could be doing this?

thanks, jon.

When i had my 55" mits the Brightnes, Contrast, and Sharpness were all cranked way up right from the factory. I saw a lot of dead people too!:p

Sounds like you may also need to get into the OSD and do a full 64 point convergence. Don't be shy about getting real close to the screen to make sure all of the points are as perfect as you can get them. I'd also recommend getting a calibration DVD(Sound & Vision Magazine Home Theater Tune-Up, AVIA, DVD Essentials, ETC.) and and go through the calibration procedures. you'll be amazed at the improved picture quality.

yea, Ive had the DVD E dvd for a while and have used to it calibrate it right more than a few times, so all the settings are where they need to be. which in the final position after calibration are relitivly low so there not really cranked up to high. Ive done the basic red and blue convergence adjusting in the menu of the tv. The one where it just has the little crosshair and you line up the blue and red with the green so its perfectly white with no blue or red on the outside. I have gotten bored and gotten the "secret codes" for the tv to get into the service menus that had hela convergence options, ones where the whole tv had a grid of green lines and stuff etc. So im guessing id use something in there for the "64 point" converging. Can you please explain to me what this is. I understand lining up the red and blue with the grene but whats the 64 points stuff? and how would this affect the component input but not the composite> cuz remember the problem went away when i used the dvd player with composite hookup.

    Thanks alot man!

On my set the 64 pt. convergence was an option via the OSD. Basically its fine tuning the position of the guns in relation to each other. I missed the part of your post about the composite cable.

Have you tried a different set of component cables or a different DVD player? If the problem re-appears with a different cable or player then the problem is in the set.

ive tried a different cable and the problem is still there, And i read up on 64 point, got int opthe service menu and did it, everything is lined up as need be but the problem is still there. also the only other dvd player i have with component out is kinda not working atm, but im guessing the problem is the component circuit or something related on my tv.

hook up an S-video cable between the DVD player and the TV and see if the problem is still there?

This also sounds a little like the chroma bug. Is it like they are overlapping each other? Do you see little lines like a comb at all?

they are kindof overlapping eachother, i its like a big white E and thees half an e to the right of it so im guessing its overlapping but i cant tell cuz half of the small e would be in the big one. and what do you mean abiout the comb? like noise in the whole screen? not really. thanks
