Hey Tour,
Thanks for remembering the name of that place. Didn't some looney burn it down? I saw Victor Borge, The Mills Brothers (talk about vocal harmony!), Johnny Winter (amazing!) lots of others there and always had a good time. Was it Jimmi who played with JB? Also, Bootsie.
"Can I git it on the one?! Hunh, Good God! Help Me!"
I was reading that Neil Young once played in Rick James band. Who'd a thunk it?

I know Jimi played with (backed) Little Richard, Ike and Tina Turner, Wilson Pickett, Jackie Wilson, The Isley Brothers and King Curtis, but I don't think he was ever with JB."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

I seem to recall something about it burning down. I do know that No Fish Today was torched by the owner, they put him in jail.Political Correctness'.........defined

From http://www.classicrockpage.com/rrheaven/hendrix.htm :
"After injuring his back during a jump he was given a medical discharge, and it was only after this twist of fate that Jimi decided to concentrate on a career in music as he was by this time an accomplished guitarist. He began playing in local R&B groups around Seattle and rapidly made a name for himself, becoming a much in demand guitar player. Between 1961 and 1966, Hendrix toured throughout the United States in blues shows under the name of Jimmy James. It was during this time that Jimi spent six months in New York as a member of James Brown's Furious Flames."
And, Ken I believe you are correct about Bootsey as well.More later,

Some memorable moments:
I saw The Cult open for Metallica. The crowd was booing them, not because they sucked, but just because they were really pumped up to see Metallica, and the Cult doesn't come close. Anyway, somebody threw something at the singer, who dove into the crowd after the guy. Several people in the audience started pummelling him. The guards had to drag him out and they ended the set.
At the first Lolapalooza everybody on the lawn started throwing all their blankets into a huge bonfire. When Jane's Addiction finally started playing at the end of the show, they got booed because somebody turned the volume down. It was an outdoor venue, and I think there was some local ordinance that said that after such and such a time at night, you couldn't exceed a certain dB level. Well, they got on so late...and by that time everyone's ears were fried and it just sucked. -
One of the best but not the wildest was a Genesis show in 1973. Peter Gabriel was still the lead singer. It was a small venue as Genesis had not experienced hugh popularity yet in the US. Great sound! The stage show was almost theatrical. That had a movie that visually displayed the lyrics of the "Carpet Crawlers". I was about ten rows back from the stage. The whole audience was passing around the "cigarettes" Great show!
I saw Aerosmith and ZZ Top at a stadium show. It was a near riot. People throwing fireworks, whisky bottle, everything! It was awful!Carl -
Ahhh..Dead shows. "You haven't lived till you've seen the Dead" as the t-shirt said. First show I ever saw was at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin back in the late 80's, didn't even know anything about them I was just dragged along by some friends.
For those of you that don't know, Alpine Valley is an ampitheater right next to a golf course and for the Dead shows they rope off the greens and let everybody park and camp on the golf course. As Dorok can attest to, anytime you put a large concentration of DH's in the same place, and especially right next to the concert good things will happen.
My buddies and I had picked up supplies at the grocery store, both from the store and from the hippie looking dude that was shopping there and we were just sitting next to to a green watching the fairway fill up with cars and letting the latter supplies kick in when this guy walked up and slipped under the ropes of the green. He was dressd in long flowing white shirt, white pants, wooden beads, sandals, long curly hair, beard, well you get the picture. Anyway, he removes his beads and sandals then sits down cross-legged on the green and starts to meditate. He gets up takes off his shirt and the guy is ripped, not huge, but definately spends a little time working out and he takes off running across the green and whips into an olympic-quality tumbling run. The crowd goes wild and he waves them to silence. Sits down, meditates some more and whips off another tumbling run in the opposite direction, gets dressed and walks off.
We just turned to each other and said this is going to be a lot of fun and there's a concert too.
After the concert was over the security forces made the dumb mistake of trying to collect money from anyone staying overnight. Anyone in a position of authority at Dead shows is a target for fun and games and this one guy is no exception. He's one straight guy arguing with a bunch of freaks about paying up and they're not having any part of it. You can tell he's getting frustrated cause he just can't seem to talk any sense in to this group of guys and he starts shaking his flashlight at them, one of those flashlights with the orange cone at the end. This prompted some completely whacked out guy to walk up to him and implore him "twirl it man twirl it" so he could watch the tracers. The guy left after that and that became our catch phrase for the weekend.
Dang that was a long post. Sorry guys, I guess since my post production is so low I feel the need to make up for it by making each one long and boring.

DJ - LOL nice story...man I miss those days. The campground was as good as any concert I attended.
I remember one campsite near DC had all kinds of folks selling trinkets & food. This dude is walking around with one of those neck strap trays, like the old "cigar/cigarette lady" if that makes any sense, and he was selling "The Nutri Cookie". He stops in front of us and asks "Hey man, have you had The Cookie? He was looking all of 40 days and 40 nights of LSD, gap tooth grin and dirty clothes....the homeless look yet you felt at peace while he was there. Anyways, I said no and asked what was in The Cookie...he said "Mother Nature maaaan, mother F'n nature!"
I ate that cookie and I remember that cookie.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
LOL, yep I can picture that as if I was there. Who knows maybe I was. Kinda lose track after a while...
Lots of good concerts, some inspired ones, some where it didn't quite come together but always a good time."The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage." Thucydides -
Mott the Hoople: jeez, Ian Hunter could warble ! I was overcome by smoke
at one of their concerts, and just laid on the floor, staring at the disco ball.
Loud ? Youbetcha, the way God made rock.
Montrose: Ronny Montrose opening a show with battleaxe guitar work that just ..... was .....awesome. Sammy Haggar's vocals were quite weak, but that gawdamm guitar work by Ronny Montrose.
Black Oak Arkansas: midway into the concert, the lights were dimmed, with only the amp lights peering out. Jim Dandy sang "Silent Night" accapella (sp?). That was the closest I'll ever come to time or interplanetary space travel.
They win, btw, the "Most Gorgeous Naked Chicks to Jump on Stage During a Concert" award.
Only time I ever saw a band get literally booed off the stage. Lee Michaels.
Ah, the good ol' days WERE (sometimes) the good ol' days.Sal Palooza -
BOA? Damn there's a name not remembered for a long time...
As for Boo-offs... Only witnessed one: Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks. They were a quirky little group somewhat like The B-52's only more "old-timey".
Dan Hicks was sandwiched in between Redbone (not Leon, but rather the all, Native-American Indian rock group) and Steppenwolf, and the crowd just wasn't in the mood.
Billy Bass, the #1 FM rock DJ in Cleveland at the time told 15,000 to "Go F" ourselves.More later,
