I've had this problem for a while but havn't posted about it. I have a Samsung HD931 dvd player, one of the frist with a DVI output so its pretty old as far as DVD players go, and when I run the Avia test disk I have a problem with bright and the and picture test. when I run it through the component, with or without progressive scan active, or the S-video output, the test runs prefectly every thing works like its suppose to, but when I run the test through the DVI output the bars in the picture test as well as the bright test are never visable. I've tried using the setting from one of the other outputs but when you switch back over to DVI the color is over saturated and darker movies are almost black and nearly impossible to see. has anyone else had tis problem and does anyone know how to fix it. thanks for any suggestions

my tv is a sony KF-60WE610 (60'' LCD RPTV) and the only other things that are hooked up to the tv is a dish network 611 receiver (component) and a HK 635 (S-video) I had the 611 hooked up a year or so ago through the DVI but I don't remember ever having any problems with it

thats what I've also done , but using the same player, just wondering if there was anything I could do to use the DVI output on the player, I mean isn't DVI suppose to be better than the component

yes it's suppose to be better.. becasue it keeps everything digital from your DVD player to your TV. Whereby component has to convert the DVD signal to analog, then in some cases back to digital to your TV.

DVI is better but does not always mean it is compatible from all sources to all displays. Not sure of a fix for this one.

I got one of the new hd toshibas and thats added alot more detail to dark movies so i guess the only fix for my problem was to replace the dvd player
