Basic TV hookup

Here's a couple of questions.
If you know the link I can go there but can't find any.
I have a Basic 27" Sharp that has imputs for S-Video
and componet also.
I have a Huges satellite box that also features S Video but not componet.
Right now I have a coax cable going directly to the TV.
RCA cables from the TV to the HK230 for sound.
Would S Video make the picture better coming from the satellite?
Do I run it into my DVD player or directly into my HK?
Do I run new audio hook ups directly from the Satellite box to the HK and bypass the TV? or should the signal be run into the DVD player?
If using a S video into the HK do I need to get another from the reciever to the TV or will the signal be sent by way of the componet cables already installed and used by the DVD player?
Any help would be appreciated

Ok, My H-K does not convert S video to composite.
Is there ANY advantage in running into the H-K as opposed to directly into the TV? Seems like directly into the TV would mean a more direct, unprocessed picture. -
Run the S-video directly from the Sat. box to the TV, yes, it is a substantially better signal than the 75 ohm coax cable you are using.

Run the sound digital, whichever one you have, (either digital optical or coax) from the Sat box to the H&K. If your Sat does not have a digital output then run the composite (red/white) from the Sat to the H&K.

Here is a link to your manual if you do not have.

Run the S video from the cable box to the TV. You will get improved picture on the TV over the coax. Component gives you the best pic, but S video is very good and you may not see a difference between S video and component without a higher end or high def TV.Drumingman wrote:Ok, My H-K does not convert S video to composite.

Did you mean your HK does not convert S video to component? You could run the S video to the HK if it converts to component and have the HK do the switching and send the signal to the TV via the component connections, However...the HK 230 only has a video bandwidth of 30Mhz and high definition component can require about 37Mhz. I've seen recommendations for having a 40-50Mhz bandwidth video section in your AVR if you want to use it for video switching.
If you are not at a point where you are running out of input jacks on your TV I would either run the S video from the cable box direct to the TV, or run the S video to the receiver and run the reciever S video out to the TV. (This allows you to use the receivers on screen menus on the TV if this is important to you.)
As to the audio hookups. If using the S video this cable will not carry the audio signals, so run audio RCA's from cable box to receiver if the receiver will always be on for TV watching. If receiver will not always be on and you want sound from the TV you will need to also run RCA's to the TV audio input jacks. The Family

This is pretty f***ed up right here. -
Yea, Zen that has to be what he meant, you got to learn to read between the lines my good man.

Sorry for the mistake between composit and componet.
Thanks for the info, I have it clear now. -
I was pretty sure he meant component, but with so many connectivity options and so much room for confusion I thought I'd ask.
Glad to hear we were of help Drumingman. The Family
