It's finally here....the 100th anniversary of the 1906 SF earthquake. This is big news locally since we have over 60% chance of experiencing "The Big One" in the next 30 years or so. I currently live right on top of the Hayward Fault, an earthquake fault that has the highest chance of rupturing during "The Big One" here in the Bay Area and the odds are not that good that my home, despite being only 8 years old, will survive. However, anywhere in the Bay Area will be affected when such a large quake happens. In some ways, living here seem safer than dealing with tornados, hurricanes, etc.... The anniversary does get me thinking about moving elsewhere though.

SFBA is a great place! Too expensive for me to live there. I enjoy going up to Napa valley to sip the wines, eat crusty bread with cheese and watch a blonde in a bikini wash my car:D

I'll be looking for all the doomsday shows. You know the ones that tell us how near the end really is for the bay area.

Don't believe the hype (as Flavor Flav would say) I am not real worried about "the big one", just because it is not something I can really prepare for other than stockpiles of food and water.

If, or should I say when, it hits I will just ride it out and see where i can help.

Hopefully we have learned alot since 1906 and all will be better than predicted.

That was a bad quake. Lots of bad after-effects. Not near as bad as the after-effects of Nov 1952, when I was born on The Presidio of San Francisco. Oh the humanity.......

This completely floors me... I know Cali is nice, but why do you pay a huge premium to live on the most active fault zone of the US?

The other question is, why do I live in a tornado zone?:confused::rolleyes:

    Just FYI (whoever cares)

In all my time here in Cali I have only had a fishtank and 2 pictures lost due to an earthquake. (1989)
I have been in too many quakes to remember them all but most are harmless and go unreported in the national news. The only ones to make headlines outside Cali are the larger ones with damage. I have never (knock on wood) been unfortunate enough to be personally effected by them.
