Hey guys, my cd player just went out on me yesterday & I have double checked all the wiring & fuses & they are ok so I think its definatly the deck. Its a Eclipse 8061 with the copper chassis & 16v balanced rca's. If it was any other deck I wouldnt be asking this & would just junk it & buy another one, but since its one of the best eclipse has made I would kinda like to keep it unless the price to have it fixed is too high. Eclipse wants $85 just to look at it & if the parts required will be more than that they will call me, which im guessing it will be & im imagining the price will be more than I want to pay(more than $200) so then I will be out that $85 that I could have put torwards a new deck. So for any of you who have had your decks serviced & know what the average price was then any help would be apreciated. Also if it matters the problem is that the deck just doesnt power up.

i personally have had my 'deck' 'serviced' three times in the past week... but no, seriously, i actually have had my pioneer premier deck sent in thrice over the past two or so years... i've had to pay shipping once, so i find it very odd that eclipse wants a hundred bucks just to open the thing up...

Alpine charges around $90 bucks for out of warranty stuff. The good thing is that the money spent on checking the thing out goes towards the repair cost. I would probably still get that unit fixed.

if you know a thing or two about the eeeelectronics, you could always open it up, yourself, and see if you see anything to see...

Wouldn't void any warranties, because you no longer have any!

i usually just do it myself, open it up, give it a good cleaning, and put it back together, check the obvious stuff, connections to the board, power leads, and hope i find something. if not, its time to take it to the shop.

I think this is where eclipse sends their units to be repaired: www.unitedradio.com . Dont know if it will be cheaper.

Electronics is deposable stuff. If you buy a deck and it last you two to three years why worry with it. You got your moneys worth go buy a new one. Besides Im generally sick of looking at a headunit after two years anyway.

If it is a top notch HU why not get it fixed. If my Eclipse HU were to go out I would just get it fixed. Luckily I am covered by the Eclipse 3 year warranty, but even if I was not, I would still opt to get it fixed.

If it's under warrenty thats a different story. But if I have had a deck for lets say 2 years or better. Theres no way im going to pay a 100 bucks to have it fixed.

As stated above, if it was a top end HU I would ;) . My HU was going for $650 dollars here in town. I would not want to spend that again if there was a cheaper alternative. So to me $100 buck is alot better than the other price :D.

Well you have a good point there. But I was thinking more in the 300 range. I usually don't put over 350 in a headunit. So for me after two to three years I have my money's worth.

You can do it you just have to wait for the new models to come out every year and buy the previous year models when they go on sale.

For instance back at the beginning of 2005 when alpine come out with the cda 9855. I caught the sale on the 04 models.

Thats when I bought my alpine 9833 it sold for 400 bucks. I caught it on sale for 299 bucks.

I do that as well. I bought my HU for $450 dollars from an authorized dealer. I also paid the for the installation which gave me 3 years of warranty from Eclipse. Not bad for $35 bucks :D.
