Preference on music playback software?

I've been using iTunes for a while now and have liked it for the most part except it's been **** with me lately. Things like how it won't show that a cd is in the drive and refuse to play the cd and how won't let me add some music to the library even though it's the same format and not protected or anything. I've decided to move onto the next media player. I've tried iTunes, musicmatch jukebox, windows media player and some others but haven't found one I really like (except iTunes before it messed with me). I haven't tried winamp (tried the ppc version but not pc) and am about to download MediaMonkey.

What do you people like use to playback the music on your computer?

    Thanks I'll have to check that out. I've heard of it but never looked into it.

    I just got Media Monkey running and so far it's pretty cool. It's pretty feature rich and I haven't quite decided if that's a good thing or not yet... almost too many things to deal with.

    I use Winamp ever since I noticed that Microcrap Media Player updated/modded the file after every play. It's free and simple to use.

    How has Media Monkey been working for you now that you have been using it for a week or 2? Would you recommend it?

    I really like it so far. It's kind of like a slightly more complex version of iTunes with some cool visualisations available to download. I especially like the feature of how it scans what you choose and updates the library. It's very handy for when you move some music or add some but then forget to add it to the library or don't update it.

    I use a program called RemoteAmp so that I can control iTunes or Winamp remotely. Basically I connect to my computer with my pocket pc through bluetooth and I have my playlist and playback controls on screen (on the ppc), which is great for when I'm doing something important, such as studying, and am not at my computer. It turns out things like skins for winamp also work for MediaMonkey so I got the idea to try remoteamp with it... Voila! It works perfectly.

    I checked out foobar2k and it does seem to have some nice features to customize plaback for the best possible sound (kernel streaming and all that fancy stuff) but it's just a tad too plain for me. I don't care enough about sound quality from my computer rig to justify not using something more intersting.

    Just my opinion so ymmv.

    Thanks for the review! I think you just talked me into using foobar2k. I'm looking for something simple to use, but with the options to improve sound quality. My goal is to use the new Pioneer Inno media player, whenever XM finally releases it.

    Winamp. I use Winamp Pro, it's worth the upgrade price as it's a one time pay and you get lots of great features.

    Thanks Demi. Just got the Pro version. Time to start dumping the CD's in again. My hard drive crashed about a month ago for the 2nd time...seemed to coincide with an iTunes upgrade each time. Unfortunately, I couldn't get any of my data back this time, and had just recently finished dumping in all of my cd's (about 900). I had been meaning to get an external hard drive for backup, but of course didn't get around to it in time. I definitely have one now...
