I'm sure your neighbors appreciate your 6am calibration session. With the test tones the HK 635 puts through my Omni s-12 sub, I think I'd be evicted from my apartment if I ran it at 6am.

It honestly scared the hell out of me when I first hooked up my sub and ran the EZEQ setup. Gave me chills. . .

No kidding! I was concerned for the integrity of my house after running the EZEQ setup the first time. Shook the hell out of the whole place. My dogs were cowering in the corner wondering what the hell had attacked our house! Of course one of them barked in the middle of a test tone, so had to run it again...and again....and again. (they're not very well behaved)

Anyway, didn't know my velo could even create the sound that came out of it during the the test tone.

Not sure how I missed seeing te 985 info, but WTF...

Yeah, WTF, usually your into multiple bases or home runs with your posts. I'm gonna write this one down.:D

IMO, the B & K is a more robustly built amp. The RB985/985MKII has one weakness that can surface during rough handling during shipping. The RCA jacks for the R & L front/rear on either side are mounted to a board that is attached to the chassis bottom. The RCA jack is then secured to the back panel with a screw. You twist the case, and you can break the RCA jack block off the circuit board. This will be evidient when you connect it and lose front/rear of the same side.

Other than that it ain't a bad amp.

If you can hear the difference between an 90 and a 120 dB S/N ratio, my hats off to your audio ears. Once the rises above 90 dB, differences are negligible.

I will grant you that a higher ratio is indicative of better curcuit components being used and/ or a "cleaner" signal path design, but whether or not that translates to a better sounding amp is the question.

And the answer is only found in one place... your ears.

By the Way what was the series two issue Gator speaks of?
Does he mean issue as in release?

I was told the B&K AV5000 amp is the earlier release model version. The B&K AV5000 Series II amp is the later model release with 125 WPC instead of 105 WPC.

B&K realized they were rating this amp very conservatively. They raised the wattage from 105 WPC to 125 WPC in order to compete with the other brands in the same wattage capacity. Otherwise these two amps are the same.

B&K AV5000 amp: 105 watts into an 8ohm load, 185Watts into a 4 ohm load (all 5 channels driven simultaneously)

B&K AV5000 Series II amp: 125 watts into an 8ohm load, 185Watts into a 4 ohm load (all 5 channels driven simultaneously)
