how big are the amps? How big is your power wire? How big of a cap? How how how? If you work for tweeter, shouldn't you already be trained on this? ;) hehe j/k

BTW, caps are more for filtration of noise than for capacitance IMO. Sure they help a bit but a quality battery is the way to go.

Forget about caps. They have their uses but a good battery and alternator should be the main priority and you can maybe throw a cap in there just to top things off. Still, unless youre competing in SPL, I dont think you ever need a cap anyway.

Some people use a cap as a bandaid with not so great results. The big three upgrade will give you more benefits than a cap.

I thought so at first but when I did a walk through at USACi finals the past few years, I noticed less and less using them. So I went to a couple guys who work for RTTI and they broke it down to me. I was shocked but they said they don't actually deliver the power as fast as they need for instant bursts. But these are the big dogs, not the kids at most local shows. lol

98%? Your numbers are way off. Going to the get loud section of the usaci forum and ask how many competitors use caps. The answer is likely to be 0.

Actually, i wouldnt say 0, but it would def. be slim to none...and if you discard all the people who havent been doing it for a while/really know what theyre doing, that number will decrease more

    Actually we're probably all right.

You get into the Mod X and unlimited classes where guys have 20 batteries and alternators and there wouldnt be any need for a cap. But in the stock type classes youll see a bunch of them. Like the Stock class in USACi allows for only one batter and one alternator in the stock locations. Same for MECA's amateur and street classes.

well i just need to run three amps. two 975 watt four channels and one 400 watt two channel. or one, depending on my mood when i put it in. i am not competing in a comp. per se, just with myself. i want it to be **** LOUD. so tell me, how can i run three amps without sacrificing anything in my electrical?
also how to rid myself of annoying light/alternator hum...

are you guys saying that alls i need to do is run all my power wires directly to the battery? maybe upgrade my alternator? won't that drain exessive power?

Yeah. 2400 watts will drain a **** load of excessive power.

Run your amps off your battery and upgrade both the alternator AND battery if you have the means. That is a lot of juice to be supplying and I doubt that stock Honda alternator is up to it.

Maybe you should actually go to a USACi show rather than listening to your boss tell you what theyre like, beeyotch! :p

FYI, the 400.4 is NOT 975w. ;) I now see what kind of amps you're running (looked above and found your sig) and I'd say a 1 farad is MORE than enough for the 300.2. You really don't need a cap for the 4ch's unless you plan on pumping a lot of midbass (rather loud too) out of them, then I'd say a 1/2 farad to cover both will be sufficient. I'm sure you could get another 1 farad for the other two amps pretty cheap seeing you work in the industry so call it good. Why do you need dual 4ch amps?

100% true, still doesnt account for 98%.

Now truthfully, when you said 98% of competitors, did you mean people that know what theyre doing, or the person that comes in with his 4 pyle 15s in the trunk powered off his 5 gigawatt boss amp?

Oops, I missed that sig too. Yeah, those 400.4's will be less than 400 RMS each, and that 300.2 will be 500 so youve got 1300 RMS. Thats still a good bit.

Im with Toxis tho, dual 4 channels does seem a bit much. Why not just step down to a single 400.4 and 300.2 and your stock charging system should be plenty then.
