Looks bad just from the trailer. I sure miss the horror of old, Friday the 13th (the first one), Nightmare on Elm St. (the first one)...etc. Those were great, the horror flicks of today, they all suck.

I haven't actually seen this one yet...
but all the local rags and pubs here in Louisville pretty much gave this one a unanimous thumbs up
Seems this isn't your standard horror-fare, and that it is unexpectedly good.
Anyone else seen it? I've got it at the top my net-flix queue... and since I'm on the one-at-a time plan, wouldn't hesitate to move it back a notch or twenty...:)

i agree with ron, most horror movies of today suck, too much is spent on effects. personaly I love Dario Agento movies, the have an atmosphere that cant be described, they really do have an Italian feel to them, and as for the horror side of things this guy is amazing, have any of you seen terror at the opera, trauma, or even susperia? I know the acting might not be up to much but for horror it kind of adds to it in some way, Dario creates a world of susspense, wonder, and a good amount of gore. his movies were made in the late 70s - 90s (dont know if he has made any lately)
so you can imagine what his earlier ones were like, you could get away with anything back then

Yeah, I'm a fan of both Argento and Fulci, and am particularly fond of Italian horror cinema. Suspira is an awesome flick -- wonderfully shot and boasts some of the most interesting color schemes I have seen in any movie. The soundtrack by the Goblins is a unique contribution as well.
In all fairness, not all new horror movies suck.
Wolf Creek was just given good reviews by a couple of sources I consider halfway credible.

    Ring 1 great.
Ring 2 The most pathetic attempt in forever at being scary. I swear, it was almost as if M. Night Shittymovie made it, it was THAT bad.

In no way the scariest movie I've seen but, the part in White Noise when the dead guys start screaming pig and **** through the stereo at Michael Keaton, man that almost scared the crap out of me. And my surrounds are on stands on each side of the sofa so it was like they where screaming in my ear. Almost gave me a heart attack

Really? You didn't enjoy the 2nd one at all? I thought it was way better plot, better character development, and overall, just as scary.

Regarding M. Night Shittymovie maker :) I have to agree.. he's lost his touch.

    M. Knight Shittymovie

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!! I dont care how many time I hear that it still cracks me up cause its soooo true! How the hell this no talent dude is so acclaimed Ill never understand!

I dont care for the new generation of horror movies either. Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the first one of these I believe (the new one). I saw it and while I was never once scared or felt creepy, I did leave feeling the need to vomit. There is a difference between just being as gory and gross as possible and being a horror movie. Didnt care for that one, didnt care for Saw, didnt care for Hostel and Im sure I wouldnt like this one either.

Actually, I thought The Exorcism of Emily Rose was excellent for a recent horror flick, but I also agree that the older ones generally rule.

    M. Knight Shittymovie

He's one of the only directors doing something different and good at the same time. It's a shame people can't recognize talent until they're told it's good. Different strokes for different folks, but this guy is a good director in my book.

You're right, one's a horror movie, one's a slasher movie. I have no idea why they b oth get lumped into the "horror" genre sometimes.

As for all the Shamalan bashing, he's hit or miss with me. I mean, the Sixth Sense was a great movie. But his other movies were a little silly. Signs and The Village come to mind as god-awful, or at least having too many plot holes for me to even be able to enjoy. Signs especially - a supersmart alien race plans a takeover of a planet, but then die because they're allergic to WATER.... on a planet that is >70% water. Didn't they ever think about RAIN? Just stupid.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

The Village was the worst ever! Its the first movie in a long time that I was really PISSED OFF when I left! What a freaking letdown! Because of that movie alone, they shouldnt let this dipstick even use a Polaroid camera much less make another movie!

I really liked 6th Sense. My wife didn't like it. After the first 5 minutes, she knew the "secret". Shyamalan claims to have figured out the formula for blockbuster movies, and his track record says this is true. I've been entertained by his films so I can't complain. But he does seem to think of himself as the new Orson Welles, and I don't think he's quite there yet.

The Forgotten was a huge let down. They could have made it into something so much better, but it felt just like, "Dark Water" Same-o same-o. Nothing new, nothing bold, nothing worth buying.

Signs I enjoyed until the ending. Then I was turned off. As stated above, common, why even pick a planet with 70% water if it is your worst enemy? I also was upset there wasn't a bigger show down. That's my main complaint with M. Nighty. He builds the plot, builds the plot, builds the plot, then at the end, it always fizzles out. Exception would be the 6th sense. But any of his other movies, the endings are anti-climatic! (Edit: Ok, I just ran the IMDB on him and he's only directed 7 movies, with 2 to be released soon. Of those seven I actually loved Unbreakable. One of my favorites. I had no idea he directed it. And 6th sense was good too. So in all honesty, 2 outta 7 ain't terrible :))

Regarding Emily Rose, I thought it was extremely well done. Not that "Horror" of a movie, but well worth a rent/buy. Excellent acting, screen write and plot. Besides it was based on a true story. That always adds a little of the creep factor in :)
