well, after 2 weeks of listening, i can highly recommend this CD. at 1st, i was disapointed! i though it was boring! then, it started growing on me...now, i listen to it every day. sometimes more than once. it's 'only' 51 minutes, so it's not a long commitment. it took me 3 years to really get into the division bell, so i guess i might be hard to please. some people rag on gilmour's lyrics. i prefer 'non-direct' writing..like broad strokes if you will...look at steely dan for instance..i wont go into a song by song here...just get the cd, give it some time, listen to the singing as if it were another instrument, not some message and i think most lovers of well-crafted music will be happy with it.:D

I'll be going up to see him at the Kodak Theatre next week in LA, really looking forward to it. I, like you had to listen to this CD a couple time to get into it. Overall it is a solid CD, if one is looking for Floyd Revisited however, you will be dissapointed.

Will do a write up of the show. I don't know how lucky I was, I got in a bidding war on ebay in securing two tickets. A 75% premium over the ticket price. But at least the demand isn't as high as them Madonna tickets:rolleyes: damn them are going for a grip. Going to have to sit that show out..

I got the cd a couple of weeks ago and although i've only heard it once,
I believe it's a very good recording. It's a little soft and slow paced but it still has yet to grow on me. Division bell is my favorite gilmour recording from all of his solo stuff and post waters pink floyd. I believe the creative force in pink floyd was roger waters. His solo works sound more like pink floyd than gilmour's work could ever aspire to.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!

I have to agree w/ you, one of my favorite LP's to date is the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking.......
and
Mechanical Animals on 180g (thought I would throw this in for Sh*& and Giggles)

it's always been funny how there has always been the distinct, gilmour and waters fan bases....there are those that go for waters' lyrics 1st and those that like the musical make up of the songs. they were at thier best when all 4 contributed to the songwriting(crafting). imho, waters put a lot of questionable stuff on the wall. it should have been a single disc. the songs that have become the classics of the album were heavily influenced by gilmour's musical contributions. guess which camp i'm from?:D

One of my all time favorite recordings is Roger Water's amused to death.
I love the guitar work on the pro's and cons of hitchhiking. I think it's one of slow hand's best guitar works period.
I do believe that pink floyd without roger is not pink floyd.
Roger and david complemented each other;david with his guitar and sweet voice. Roger with his raspy voice and geniusly neurotic lyrics.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!

I like both, and I have seen both. Watching Roger Waters on his 'In The Flesh' tour in Chicago was nothing short of amazing, and it's too bad Gilmour and the rest of the band couldn't have been performing as well.

I have to disagree, it is just Floyd Ver. II, it is still distinctively Floyd. It is unfortunate that there is camps for and against Waters/Gilmour. Floyd with, and without. I thoroughly enjoy all of it. Prefer early works, well not that early. Syd's contribution did nothing for me. Piper, isn't on my fav's list.
Complemented each other sums it up nicely.......Very True.. -
I liked them all. David for his guitar and voice, Roger for his lyrics and personality,Nick mason for being an extremely versatile percussionst, and rick as a keyboardist.
I have all their individual recordings and they're all good in their own right.
I won't debate or take sides. I've seen both roger waters and post waters pink floyd live and have enjoyed both. :cool:SRT For Life; SDA Forever!

roger in a way pulled clapton out of a low point creatively. after that tour, eric put out some decent stuff. eric didn't last the whole tour, though. he pulled out before the halfway point. roger was being a dictator to slowhand! anyway, if you can find a bootleg of these shows, it's great stuff!

I have a website written somewhere where they sell all those bootlegs.
I'll have to check it out.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!

I do think that division bell is david's best work on post water's pink floyd.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!

btw, i saw pink floyd in yankee stadium twice for division bell.
The concert sucked eggs! The sound was heavily underpowered and david gave a wooden performance. The visuals where excellent.
I actually got paid to see both concerts and had access backstage.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!

Back stage! Damn must have been awesome. I saw that concert at Jack Murphy (now qualcom I think) in San Diego, and though I've been to 40-50 concerts, that was probably one of the best all around visual/sonic/emotional experiences that I've had at a concert. And I agree that the division bell was an awesome Floyd album. I've bought it 3 times I think. CDs don't seem to last when you listen to them all the time. I owned the Floyd box set in '93 or '94 and all those have been replaced now too. or is itDenon 3805S
