Ive been fooling with a couple of 6v6 vintage console amps.. a small maybe 3-5 watt amp with 2 6v6's and a 6v6 x4 push /pull amp... about 10 watts.. sounds great on my rt25i's.. useing a dynaco pas 3 tube pre and also a dynaco dsc-1 passive pre... But i want a SS pre for the front side. what would be good and not overdrive the old tube amp/ s ?

Not real soon, but was thinking getting another parasound pre, or the new Halo p3. I would be selling the pre's i have to fund it. like i said down the road. just want some idea's. The tube amps sound great, glad to be fooling with tubes again... ive rolled old tubes and some EH 12ax7's and EH6v6's.. couple 6v6G's also in the small amp..

Hey Cliff! Good to have you back bud! Hope everything is well again.

Just wondering why you want a SS pre amp? You should try to max out your PAS3 first. Check out www.dynaco-doctor.com for upgrades or restoration. You'll be holding your rig back. Stick with tubes. If you ever decide to change amps, all you have to do is tube roll on the pre to get a sound that matches the new amp. If you go SS, you're stuck with the same sound signature.

I'm very excited about 6V6 tubes. I have a single ended int amp coming from Russ that uses a pair of 6V6 (4w/ch). You should check out ebay for NOS. These guys are cheeeeeep to roll.

I seen that amp he had for sale.. I have one vintage just like it.. 1 -12ax7 driving 2 x 6v6's with a 6ca4 rectifier.. nice little amp. I do have some old tubes for both 6v6 amps.. pair of real old sylvania's green writing.. a quad of old motorola's, pair of EH's and a pair of big bottle 6v6G's.. amperex 6ca4 rectifier and numerous 12ax7's... I found a nice box of tubes at the antique fair in north florida and had some nice tubes in there. My second tube amp is a push /pull 6v6 amp with a quad of 6v6's, pair of 12ax7's and a 5u4 GB for a rectifier.. I want to get another pair of the big bottle 6v6G's and a 5u4G to match and have all big bottle's in the bigger amp... i do like the pas, id like to do some mods if i keep it.. its factory wired and all original.. Wish i had my st70 back though... LOL

what are some higher efficient speakers? what ya think about the Klipsch RF-35 that you have? what would a comparable bookshelf model be to them?

Awesome. How does the EH 6V6 compare to your vintage tubes?

Nice that you got a tube rectifier with it. If your PAS is factory wired, it's just a littler harder to mod but it can be done. You should keep it if you plan to get an ST-70 again in the future.

I LOVE my RF-35. I'd love to own a pair of 7's one day but the 35's give me everything I need. A comparable bookshelf model would be the RB-35 which is the bookshelf model using the same horn tweet and woofer.

You might be able to find them cheap because the new Reference line just came out and I'm sure many dealers are still clearing out the older ones.

awesome , will have to do some searches for that model... I don't think the EH's have the bass depth that the old 6v6's have but im kinda partial to the old tube sound... however it is a very well rounded tube Nos aside..

I think its factory wired, it has a tax with serial number on the back.. but doesnt say anywhere "factory wired" like the st70's do.. what are the differences

Thanks for the info on EH. I think I'll roll JJ first when I get it. I also like the vintage sound.

The best way to tell if your PAS was factory wired or assembled from a kit is to look at the Dynaco label. Kits are labeled "Dynakit" and factory wired are "Dynaco". I don't really know all the differences with kit vs factory wired. From what I've heard, factory wired are a little harder to work on. I know that factory wired ST-70's have the tube sockets somehow crammed onto the chassis while kits are screwed on.

It says dynaco everywhere, so it must be factory wired. debating to do the board upgrade or leave as is, it sounds good now.. seems to have to get to 12Oclock for the gain to kick in, which i read was typical of the stock pas
Like to upgrade the power supply but don't want to lose the tube, I think the kits do away with the 12x4 tube.. its in mint shape and after i cleaned everything with deoxit is smooth and no scratchyness or anything.. its a nice match for the 6v6 amps i have so it seems..

Ya interested in the 2 6v6G's i have? was gonna get 2 more to make a quad for the amp that takes 4 but might just keep what i have to save from spending more cash on tubes.. and sell these, zenith big bottle types
