speaker lvls

i had a question about my sub lvl down in the sub forums but now i am curious about the lvls on my other speakers. i have all my speakers set to small ( i will eventually have the rti12s set to large when i get my amps i am waiting for. someone told me to run them on small since i am just using my avr for now. ) i have all the speakers including the sub (using the lfe) set at 100hz. my set up is listed below. i think it sounds good but fine tuning is not my thing. is there another way i should have these set or this the optimum setting for these speakers. any imput would be nice.

Try dropping the crossover to around 80Hz and see how you like things. Most people around here use around 80 for home theater. I personally have found 50-55 works best for me, my room and my current setup but that things will be different for you and anyone else.

With it set at 100hz now your sub might be producing a little too much localized bass (you can tell where it's coming from) so if you drop it a little bit it might blend a little better. I'm sure your other speakers can handle down to 80hz just fine

So did you calibrate your speakers using a DVD like AVIA? Did you use a sound pressure meter?

100hz crossover has a chance for localizing your sub. Why did you not set it to 80hz or lower?

Why do you plan to set your RTi12's to large?

Just wondering about your ideas before I start interjecting any of mine. I have close to the same setup as you so I was wondering what you were thinking.

in the sub forum someone suggested that i set my sub to 100hz so i did. i had it at 80hz. should i put it back to 80 or lower. as far as the rti12s, should they be set to small or large. i'm not an audio expert and i seem to get different answers with this stuff. and i just kinda winged it i do not have any audio calibration stuff. other than dropping the sub should i keep the other speakers at 100hz?

I would recommend setting your receiver to a crossover of 80Hz for ALL speakers. Your sub should have its crossover turned off or set very high so as to let your receiver do the work.

As far as whether you should set your RTi12's to large or not is entirely up to your tastes and your sub. I have a very large and strong subwoofer. It adequately pushes the bass. To prevent my system from producing cancelling waves and thus giving my holes in my bass, I have my RTi12's set to small. ALL my speakers are set to small.

However you may find that your sub cannot push enough bass and thus you need the RTi12's to help you out. Try it both ways. Set those speakers to large and then small. See what sounds best to you.

so i popped in band of brothers for a dvd and then the soundtrack to cowboy bebop ( two of my favorites ) i switched the hz down to 80 on all my speakers and i liked it, it sounded real good. when i switch between large and small on the mains it sounds way different but i'm not sure which one sounds " better" i got a stack of dvds which i like the audio tracks with which i will tinker some more. plus all this messing around gave me an excuse to pull the tv out and switch out for some newer cables i had laying around. all around its been productive thanks for the info

with the RTI12's? try the 80 hz, but hell, I'd try lower too. I got my LSi's crossed at 40 with great results, and the RTi12's are just as full range as my LSI15's are. play around and try what sounds best
