Wall clearance for LSi15's

How far out from the wall do the LSi15's need to be to sound right? They will each be going into a corner with only about 1 foot of clearance between them and each side wall and I am wondering how they are going to sound...

Not ideal, but with some toe in, it'll be fine.

They'll be a little bass-heavy tucked into a corner that way. is you room carpeted? If so, you might be able to clean the bass up a bit by placing the 15's on clay tile pieces or concrete slabs. Look at my system pic in the link below, you'll see what I mean...

Crap- steve has a good point. I was thinking of my 25's where you can just trim the woofers back a bit. Still, with some room tweaking you'll be fine- search for some threads on that.

...then again, if he likes heavy bass, he'll be one happy camper!

I do like bass. I was worried that being so close to the walls would hurt the bass.

I was even considering using LSi9's instead, on stands in the corners and adding a PSW505 sub in a more suitable place if it were going to be a problem.

    I have wood floors.

    Thanks...

Then you're in luck! Corner placement reinforces bass, but can hurt imaging sometimes...

Yeah, you'll probably need to toe them in so they're facing right at the listening spot. If at all possible pull them forward into the room.

Get them out of the corner if you can. The bass will probably be bloated and the soundstage will be compromised.

This raises a good point. My LSi15's are both corner loaded. (back corner of the speaker almost touching the wall.) Would it be better to run them with the woofer firing right into the wall (like they are now), or would it be better to run them backwards. (tweeters to the outside, woofers to the inside)?

    Thanks,

    Michael

Also, I don't know if anyone has tried this but I also have the spikes so that the front ones are longer so as to tilt the speaker back a little. I got this idea from listening to some Usher speakers and how incredibly well they image. When trying it on the polks I did notice a slight image improvement.

Just don't ever drag them out into the room and listen, you'll never put them back and you'll be in big trouble with the wife....:D

Try using sound absorbing panels (DIY) in the corners, it will help.

I got my 15's about 1 1/2 feet from the wall and 2 feet from the outer walls, with a skosh of toe in.

dont push em to the corners, someone mention loss of imaging, and there pretty much right. need more bass, head to subsville :)

Mine are about a foot off the side walls (no choice), but I've pulled them as far forward as WAF allows - probably about 3-4 feet. Luckily the room is very long, so I can afford to kill some space. Made a major difference over having them against that back wall. Also, when I had them all the way in the corner, they sounded better with the woofer phase flipped. With 25's this is easy, but it might not hurt to try flipping it on 15's too. I've tried some cheap treatments back behind them, but nothing worth mentioning and I'm about to move, so I'll have a new room to tweak.

I bring mine out of the corners as much as is practical for my small room. I find this to be extremely important as I tend to listen to music quite loudly and the sub has a tendency to get a little muddy on the 15's at higher volume levels (in my room anyway).

That sounds like it would work. If you try it let me know how it works out...

I haven't bought the LSi15's yet and am still thinking about getting the LSi9's and a sub instead because of this potential problem. Would the LSi9's on stands have any problems with sound if they are positioned in the corners with only about 1 foot of clearance from the back wall and side wall? The sub would be better positioned.

Oh, by the way, this setup will be for listening to music only. Probably fairly loud occationally. :D

It would be less of an issue with the Lsi9, but they too can get a little "muddy" in the mid-bass when too close to the wall.

If you can get at least 12" from the back of the 9 to the rear wall, and at least 12" from the side, then toe them in about 2" you'll probably be ok.

Maybe consider the Lsi7? It would benefit from this postioning....
