A tribute to Grandma...

Back in the 70's, when I was about 16, I remember I was in my room listening to my stereo, and Grandma popped her head in. She said "whatcha doin?" I told her I was listening to some music with my headphones. She said "lemme hear that" so I put the phones on grandma. She looked a little stunned, as I don't think she had ever heard stereo headphones before, but continued to listen for about a minute. She pulled the headphones off and said "I like that, who is it?" I said "Boston" grandma.

Why do I bring up this story? To demonstrate her ability to relate and show interest in her grand kids. This was just one small sample of countless times. Grandma is not doing well lately, in fact she's not expected to make it very much longer, she would have been 90 in September.

To you grandma, for being the kind of grandma every kid should have.

Love you.

btw why is it that grandma's always seem to understand, when no one else does...
I think more people than you know will be able to relate to your story
Thanks for sharing Steve, and I hope everything turns out okay
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Here's to Grandma's everywhere....Mine will be 93 this year and she's doing pretty well for being almost 93. She lives on her own, still goes to the market and drives occasionally. She won't drive at night and will take a ride anytime a family member offers. She likes to take those senior bus trips to gamble. She drinks two tugs of Beam everyday, it's kept her healthy (RuSs you may live that long too).

My grandparents were my 2nd set of parents as I spent alot of time with them since they lived down the street until I was 10 years old. Spent whole summers up at the lake with them and did all the great grandfather/grandson things like fishing, hunting, etc. My grandpa died about 7 years ago or they would have been married 75 years come this September. She's my last grandparent and I'm going to be a total basket case when she passes.

She'll be in your memories forever Steve.

Best wishes for your grandma, she's in my prayers. All of my grandparents have been gone for 25+ years but memories of them pop up every few weeks. It's great that you've enjoyed good times with yours.

What a great way to remember Boston... I don't have any special memories attached to listening to them.

Steve you are one lucky man. My prayers are with you and Grandma. As all my grand parents passed on early.. i've adopted many a Grandma. They always have an ear, smile so bright when i bring them rose or tell them how pretty they are.

God bless Grandmas, they have a way of turning boys into men and back again.

You know, i'll think i'll go bake a few cookies... their the frozen type, but w/ a cold glass of milk what kid would care... Thx. for the insight Steve.

Thats very nice Steve! Best wishes to you and your Grandma!

Mine (Mom's mom) departed back in 1990. She lived with us up to the time when we had to put her in a nursing home. I remember one day back in high school I get home, walk up stairs and there she is in bed watching boxing. I go..."granny, what are you watching?" She looks at me, starts laughing and goes..."Oh i'm just watching these 2 idiots bash each others brains in!" I started laughing histerically with her.

Ahhh, the memories. She's the only grandparent I knew out of 4. The others departed before I was born.

Thanks guys. Grandma Clara (my mom's mom) is my last surviving grand parent. She's always been a hellfire and all of the cousins favorite, you know, the "fun" grandma. She's had a great and full life, for that I'm thankful. Lots of good times and great memories, who could ask for more?

Grandma Clara is actually a Great Grandmother by 7 children, and one of those children is married (21yrs old)---if her health wasn't failing she may have made great-great grandma. Incredible.

    Thanks again.
