Today is one of my favorite days of the year. Its opening day for MLB.

I'll be taking the afternoon off tomorrow and going to the M's opening day game. I am excited. Six months of baseball!

Oh boy... another year for the boys in blue to lose 100 games. What can possibly be more exciting than that?!?

I feel your pain Mr. Nightly! Pittsburgh hasn't had a winning season since 1992. Which was the last time Barry Bonds wore a Pirate uniform and before he started injecting the moo juice.

The Pirates actually look like they have a decent looking team this year. Some good young pitching and a couple of franchise type players in Jason Bay and Jack Wilson. Still, I'm don't believe they can compete with the big market teams. KC is in the same small market team category.

That's why the NFL has become America's national sport. All teams have the same amount to spend on salaries, a good draft system and some revenue sharing among the teams for merchandise. Any team can be a contender.

That's a myth - the Cardinals and Texans will NOT be a contender next year. I'd bet a lot of money on it.

Baseball has had MORE different teams in teh World Series over the past 20 years than football has had in the Super Bowl. Where's your parity there?

Football is America's sport because of teh quality of play, not because of the "parity". It's a well-marketed and produced piece of entertainment.

In other news, I'm going to a Sox game next week. Green monster seats. My frist time up there, I'm PSYCHED.

Sitting on the monster would be quite the treat for a baseball fan. Are those fairly hard to come by?

Very. You have to basically put your name into a lottery drawing before the season for the CHANCE to buy them. A buddy of mine happened to luck out. Otherwise it's ebay for upwards of 200/seat for most games.

Good heavens. Are all games hard to get into? Red Sox fever must be running pretty high still.

Well, my M's lost, but it was a close, well-played loss. So, their improvement was pretty obvious. Should be a mediocre season.

Its fun to have baseball back anyways.

Being at the ballpark is a different experience.

Watching it at home on a soft couch is relaxing for me. I look forward to many enjoyable afternoons drifting in and out of sleep listening to it.

Meh, it's been like this for years, long before t hey won any Series. Huge local fanbase + tiny ballpark (33,000ish) means hard to get tickets. Throw in the fact that there's a about 300 colleges right outside of Fenway Park with more kids just wanting to watch a game and drink a beer, and you have our current state of affairs. :)

while it has been tough in the past, the past 2-3 years have really been ridiculous. to get anything other than the $100 seats you need to get something ahead of the season, you can also forget about seeing anyone other than the devil rays or the royals...

that is why my favorite spot to watch the games is the cask and flagon. all the atmosphere of fenway without the beer lines (or the $6 beers!)

Unless the Yankees are in town. I always laugh when I see the line going down the street outside the Cask on game days :)

I'm going to the Cubs v Cardinals game this weekend at Wrigley. It'll be opening weekend and should be fun. After that, I've got another Cubs game on 4/12, 4/25, and 5/12. My resolution this year is to attend at least one game/month.
