okay so i want to get started on a 2 channel system. im starting from scratch and im debating if i should get the m70's, RTi12, or RTi10s. I will mainly be using this for music but probably sometime within the next two years i will be upgrading to a full surround sound system. I mainly listen to hip hop so bass levels are important but i also want a well balanced sound for vocals and what not. my music taste is very diverse so i want the speakers to be adjustable to whatever i listen to. ALso what would be a good reciever to power these speakers? I work in a electronic retail store so i get very good discounts on all polk, hk, onkyo products so any suggestions preferably within those companies so they can be affordable for me. thanks

    Budah,

You are really just going to have to listen to them and decide. Each have their pro's and con's. How a speaker sounds mostly depends on who is listening to it.

With that being said, I would go with the RTi12's for Hip Hop music. With 3 7-inch subwoofer cones, they will give you the umph needed for 2-channel. Of course if you also have a dedicated sub (not pure 2-channel) then your options open up a bit more.

Still....Listen, listen, listen.... let your ears be your judge. My ears make a poor representation of your likes and dislikes.

RTi12...and as big of an HK or Onkyo AVR as you can afford. If you have the discount, use it.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I own a set of RTi10s and although very pleased with the speakers I now wish I had stepped up to the RTi12s! I have owned both HK and Onkyo products in the past and have nothing but good things to say about both manufacturers.
My motto is to buy the very best that you can afford at the time. "Upgradeitis" later on down the road can be very expensive yet very satisfying! Dont overlook used or clearance items as they can be had for reasonable cost and provide the same level of performance. The majority of my equipment is second hand or clearance items!
Whatever route you choose, have fun and choose the products that sound best to YOU!

The RTi line of Polk is awesome !!! Especially Rti10. My recommendation is take a pair of RTi10 with good subwoofer...ROCKS !!! In receivers...Denon, Yamaha or HK.

Anyway...i tried the Monitor 70 some times and sounded very good !!! but the difference with RTi series...exists :)

    Good Luck !

yah unfortunatly i have no place to sample the rti12's, my work only has the m70's for display and a bunch of infiniti's which dont even compare to the m70's. I just found out that our store might be carrying KEF. I was browsing their website and they have some incredible floorstanding speakers. Has highest range of frequency and frequency response is very promising 95-98. plus they look beautiful. does anyone know how these compare to polk speakers in general?

rti12's if you don't want a subwoofer. However, the better performing alternative would be a pair of rti10's and a good sub for about the same price. If you're in the market for either the above, then stay away from the Monitor line altogether. As for receivers, H/K all the way. Better power supply, more current. Look into the avr-7300 or avr-635. The 635 can be had for pennies on the dollar through Harman Kardon on ebay.

Agree with the speakers. But he must consider models of Denon and Yamaha too, not only HK...For example AVR 3805/3806 or RX-V2600 are excellent receivers.

True, but he only gets a discount on Onkyo & HK, so for the output he is looking for the HK is the best choice, but I always install a fan on the HK equipment because it runs HOT.

I have sold many a KEF speaker, and they sound great for music and even better with movies, just something about that point-source mounting of the tweeter. If I was looking for a new system to play everthing well, including hip-hop, I would buy the RTI-10's and a good SVS subwoofer.

In that case...go with HK :D
