LSI9 Banana Plugs

I've got a question on the banana jacks on the LSI9's. I've had a pair for a couple years that I have used with 14 gage speaker cable screwed on to the binding posts.
It has been a long time since I listened to them on my main system and I brought them upstairs to put on the main amplifier. I am running some audioquest cables with banana terminations on the main system, so I pulled them out of the SDA's and went to hook them up to the LSI's and encounterred the banana cap that came with the LSI-9's. Having never used the banana input I had never removed them.
I tried to pull them out, but they wouldn't budge. I checked the manual to see if there was a specific procedure to remove them and it just said to gently pry them out. I carefully tried a small electronics screwdriver and a pering knife, but all I succedded in doing was taking a small chunk or two out of the plastic banana cap. They all seem to be stuck in there fairly well.
Anyone ever encounter this or have any suggestions?

Funny I did the same thing with my LSi's. To get them off, just unscrew the barrel of the terminal all the way and remove it from the speaker. After that, the caps will come right off. (then put the barrel back on)

When trying to remove the caps I did completely unscrew the outer barrel and remove. The plastic caps appear siezed in the terminals.
The other thought I had was maybe some mild heat with a hair dryer to expand the metal some. Not my method of choice, but I am running short on ideas.

Won't expanding the metal just make them harder to get off? I'd say have at it with the screwdriver. Break 'em off. Do you want to keep those caps for something?

The caps fit over the hole like a mushroom. (plug in hole with a cap on the top) Once you remove the barrels so you can see the plug, you should be able to just take a small screwdriver and pry them up. They are not tight fitted into the hole.

If that doesn't work, try the other set. (top or bottom holes)
