I recently found out that my receiver, Onkyo TX-SR603X doesn't have pre-outs.
I am looking for a receiver in the same range (<$500) with pre-outs. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

My receiver .... Yamaha RX-V657 is great. Excellent sound quality, features and reliability. IMHO Superior to Onkyo and Pioneer. Same quality as Denon (Obviously, in the same price range) Try to listen it.My current new system (step by step )

I wouldn't buy a Yamaha receiver, period.
There's lots out there to choose from, have a look around.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
what Russ said.
For under $500, start with the Marantz sr-4600 and Harman Kardon avr-240. Both have much better amp quality than a sub $500 Yammie, Onkyo, Pioneer, Sony and Denon.
or... go used. -

goto circuit city.com and get the TX-SR703x. I found it on sale for about $250 off. If you check back every week, they will randomly mark down the price.Speakers: LSi9 x 2, LSic, LSiFX x 2, Velodyne HGS-15
Amps & Power: Rockford Fosgate T8004 x 3, Cascade Audio APS-55 power supplies x 5, and 1 farad capacitor.
Electronics: Denon 3806, Toshiba HD-A1, & Sony KDL46XBR2
Accessories: Anti-IC interconnects, 8 Mondo Traps from Realtraps, and Salamander furniture. -
the Harman Kardon 240 can be had at circuit city for 349.99 as of today....
this is an unbelievable deal as you'll find it at most retailers for around 549.99 to 600.00
high current w/ pre-outs and all the fixin's:DI never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -
The Harmon Kardon at around $350 seems a great deal! I checked it out at Amazon also for that price.
The TX-SR703x would go well with my Onkyo DVD player but it is a little on the high end at around $800, but its definitely worth considering.
Does the HK and Onkyo 703 both have pre-outs?
How does the 703 compare to the HK in quality?Distant Dream - A New Beginning

Top of the line Onkyo when I bought it...

the HK does have pre-outs and it should be noted that the 349.00 pricepoints is for a new unit, not a refurb....I never had it like this where I grew up. Yes it is. I own the same one and very please with it.

IMO yes...
in my comparisons, the HK's produce a more laid-back sound than the Onkyo's (which tend to sound a little more aggressive to my ears); chances are, if you have chosen Polk, you favor a warmer presentation than say, Infinity's line of speaks can provide, so it would seem the Harman Kardon and Polk make good bedfellows
just my 2 cents (i know quite a few on this forum cherish their Oinkers):)I never had it like this where I grew up. Thanks for the help - this certainly helps since the HK is a LOT cheaper than the Onkyo TX-SR703
One thing for sure - the Onkyo customer service is the worst!!!Distant Dream - A New Beginning

Onkyo...never heard one of them....
Here in Argentina, Yamaha and Denon are the strong hi-end brands. Harman Kardon and Marantz are more hard to find but...not impossible.
In customer services...the winner is Yamaha. (by far)My current new system (step by step )

You may even be able to find last year models discounted (HK) that's how I scored my HK335 for 590$cad. Glad I did, as mentioned a very nice match with my Polks.
