Will not porting my sub box blow my speaker???

I have a rockford fosgate punch 120 and a pioneer 12 in sub (dunno exact model) anyway I have it hooked up and my cousin said that if i dont port the box i will "blow" my sub....

    it will not blow your sub. to be safe though make sure you go online and find the specifications for the sub. They will tell you the proper size box to use and which box (ported or sealed) would make the subs sound best. just do you research and you will be fine
