WTF? That's never a combination I thought I would ever see on the same bill. My Morning Jacket is one of my favorite bands.

Not trying to flame but a guy at work and I were just say that maybe PJ isn't what they used to be. Still a great rock band but not really breaking any boundaries etc.
I have plenty of PJ albums but they are a little faded at this point you think?

I would have to disagree with that. Pearl Jam has is light years from where they started. I personally have enjoyed the journey and think they are better now than they ever more...just my opinion.RTi10

Ten is still one of the greatest albums of all time. Vedder & Co. are awesome, but they'll never top that one imo.

PJ isn't even the best band on that bill. MMJ is a much better band.

PJ is a great band. Innovative and great at just doing whatever they want since they realized "Hey, we're a big rock band now and can do whatever we want, f everyone else". I think Vitalogy is really good as well.-Stopher

Most folks who think Ten is the greatest album they put haven't usually listened to anything past Vs.
If you haven't seen them live, especially up close, you are doing yourself a disservice. Mike McCready is easily the most underrated guitarist for a band of this magnitude. Stone Gossard is up there as well.
The thing that bothers me these days is Eddie's damn political BS. Just write good songs and play great rock, dammit!
I listen to their later stuff with much more frequency than the early. The recording quality increased dramatically on Vitalogy and has been going up ever since. They aren't audiophile recordings, but they are head and shoulders above the vast majority of rock & pop albums out there. Plus, I think they still make a lot of their stuff on vinyl.

I'm from Louisville and have probably attended close to 30 MMJ shows -- hell, I even saw them play in front of what must have been 10 people in a dive no larger than a broom closet... and they ALWAYS put on a helluva, helluva, helluva show...
Jim James and the boys perform like the very hounds of hell are at their heels
and though I'm still partial to the original line-up, I always recommend these guys when I'm out of state and tryin' to represent, yo
it's really, really good to see you guys taking notice of what many around here consider to be the pride and joy of our always flourishing (but rarely mentioned) music scene
btw Pearl Jam is going to find out the hard way what it means to "follow" My Morning CRACKHEAD:DI never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -

I agree!
There's a whole slew of MMJ fans out there, thanks in part to the Bonaroo Festival that they play every year. There's also a crapload of bands out there with their kind of talent that nobody bothers to try and listen to because of their lack of a major label.
They've been on:
ATO Records
Darla Records
Wichita Recordings
Badman Recording Co.
Jade Tree Records
Jade Tree being the best of the bunch with many fantastic bands on the label.
It's why I often get a chuckle out of the bullheaded folk who stick themselves in a particular decade of music and never leave it. Then they try to go out and comment how there are no good bands now. Sure, if you don't go beyond the layer of fluff you're going to be nauseated.
If anyone is interested in this band DO NOT make 'Z' your first purchase. 'It Still Moves' is the best CD to get your feet wet with. Also, a MMJ live experience is different than what you get on the CD. They like to improvise on stage a lot, sometimes mixing in various musicians they might be touring with, such as M. Ward.
I too am partial of the original line-up. -

yeah god forbid he should have an opinion on anything except music. -
Being overtly political in your music is going to draw criticism and drives a huge wedge between fans. It's a weak move, but more power to him. Illicit Drugs and Politics don't usually go so well, especially when you're trying to defend the two.
-
Well, I do hate preachers who talk politics so you got a point.

political references inside the lyrics are one thing. I thought you meant something else. -
I think the girlfriend and myself are going to go to the Chicago show on 5/16/06. I've never seen PJ, but have always been a fan of them."I got into the music business thinking it was really radical, that it wasn't really a business at all, that it was a lot of people being artistic and creative. Not true, and it made me very depressed."

Figured this could go here.
I saw My Morning Jacket again last night at Summerfest (World's largest music festival) here in Milwaukee. You simply don't miss this band when they play in your town.
Started out with a few pitchers of beer at a local pub, and then a pitcher of beer on the bus ride down to the Summerfest grounds. A little corn on the cob drenched in butter and some BBQ from Saz's on the grounds.
Checked out Will Hoge on the Leinenkugel's stage as the opening act for MMJ. Seemed like a good band save for Will Hoge himself. I think he appeals to women more than a men that most guys can get into. The first half of their set was lyrically nauseating, but as the girls next to me started dancing with me I joined in and started having one hell of a good time. Drenched ourselves in more beer, and then the fireworks started.
My Morning Jacket came on at 10 PM as the sun was just putting itself to bed. Their set was blistering, and so was the crowd. I had a killer time, and Jim James was just spot on as always. Being able to sing the way he does moving around the way he does is nothing short of amazing. They're just a fantastic band with stellar presence. Their music is soulful and they know how to rock out. Did I have any doubts? No way!
Go see them if you get the chance. They're playing at Taste of Chicago tonight, so if you're in the area and bored -- go! -
Demi ain't just yanking your chain folks....
