I just purchased a pair of RTi12s and want to know if my Yamaha RX-V2500 has the oooph to power my HT. Do I need to add a seperate 2ch amp to do them justice? The 2500 has 130w per ch @ 8 ohms. I was also told that it has separate amps.

This is my total system:

Yamaha RX-V2500
L/R Fronts - RTi12
Center - Csi5
Surrounds - Fxi5
Surrounds Rears - Rti6
L/R Presence speakers - Rti4
Subwoofer - SVS PC-Ultra
TV - JVC HD-61Z786
Directv HD DVR - HR10-250
Monster Power - Reference Power Center HTS3500
DVD Player - Sony DVP-Ns725p
VHS - Sony SLV-778HF
Game Cube (Waiting for PS3)

Where am I falling short

The RX-V2500 is a MONSTER.....IMHO, an awesome receiver for RTi series. Great features and performance. In the future, if you want, upgrade your system to RX-V4600, The best receiver i've ever seen. :D

    Amps?? ...mmmm...i don't wanna.
My current new system (step by step :D)

    A/V Receiver: YAMAHA RX-V657
    DVD Player: YAMAHA DVD-S657
    Main Towers: polkaudio® Monitor 50
    Wiring: NeoTecH KS1007 OFC High Definition Speaker Cable ( 2 x 2.64 mm² )

I think your receiver should do fine. but adding an extra amp will never be a bad thing. listen to your system with the RTi12's hooked up. and crank it up a bit. if it's goes into protection mode and shuts down. then you def need a extra amp.

The 2500 is a nice receiver. I have been quite happy, and pretty impressed with mine. I would recommend someday down the road to consider a good power amp. I think you would be quite surprised at the difference it will make. To me an upgrade to a higher model would be pointless unless there is some specific feature that you require such as HDMI switching or video processing. When it comes down to sound quality. You would be much better off to spend the money on an amp(s) rather than upgrading receivers.

BTW...You have a very nice system started there. Welcome to Club Polk!

Thank you very much for the complements cmy330go, I spent a lot of money on this system. I built a theater in my home completely dedicated to mostly movies, but I will be listening to music in there also. The room is 18 X 20 with 8 foot cielings. the room was built over a concrete slab with in floor heating. We glued 1" high density foam between the studs and the sheetrock, we chriscrossed 2 layers of sheetrock on the walls and ceiling. All walls and the attic have blown in Insulation. All wiring was preinstalled with Monster cable.

So if I were to add a Amp. What Brand and how much Power would you recamend, I spelled that wrong.

There are many threads discussing quality amplification. The usual suspects in no particular order. B&K, Carver/Sunfire, NAD, Outlaw, Parasound, Rotel, Adcom. There are others, and then there is the real high end stuff. Most of the ones mentioned can be found used on EBAY, Audiogon, or here.
As to power, well your RTI's can handle 500W so lot's of options. A quality amp in the 250W and higher range will produce a difference you should definitely hear. Looks like you've got a pretty good sized room. Enjoy.
