There is a lot of quotes about guys wanting expensive cdp's. If you use the digital out to your processor what is the difference between cheap and ecpensive cdp's SQ?? It is just 1's and 0's, right? Wouldn't you want your processor's dac's doing the work?

The dac in a cd player will usually make the biggest difference between one cdp to another, but it's not the only issue that comes up when you want good sq. When you're talking about using it as just a transport you have to deal with jitter. An external dac is usually a better route than using your processor's.

thanks for the link. I searched for a bit and found nothing.
Does the 2 channel croud use the dac's in the cdp and the analog out? -
I have a Sony CDP55X-ES CD player going into the TAE-9000ES Preamp. I play back CDs using the analogue out over the Optical out. I find that using the Monster Cable M950i as the interlink gives SLIGHTLY better performance than when I use the optical out. The funny thing is that the CDP was manufactured and purchased back in 1991 whereas the preamp was manufactured and purchased back in 1999. I guess the DAC of my CDP/analogue in of the preamp is JUST SLIGHTLY better than the optical in of the preamp

Some do CDP only, some use an external DAC. I use an external DAC.
