well over the weekend someone stole my headunit. So Monday I threw in a alpine I had on the shelf. thing did'nt sound as clear as my premier. Anyway I kept all my levels the same but lastnight my tweeters in my 690's stop working. Does anyone think that it was do to the **** low voltage preouts on the alpine. would that cause my amps to produce distortion and cause the tweet's to burnout. I noticed the clearity is'nt the same compared to my pioneer. I do have extended warranty at tweeter so today going to return them but I dont what this to happen again. So is it the headunit or could my high's amp's be having issue's.

    1. Sorry to hear about you HU...
    2. I don't think the HU cause the problem with your tweets, maybe since it wasn't so clear you cranked up your system way too high looking for better/cleaner sound...? I dunno.

This might not help at all but I'm clueless...

There is absolutely no way a lower output voltage from a different head unit wouldve hurt your tweeters. If nothing else, they wouldve been easier on them. A lower signal meant a lower output so the amps output wouldve been less than with the Pioneer.

Check out your speakers, the guy that ripped off your head unit may have tried to yank out the speakers or amp and disconnected something.

or, maybe, since the new HU had a lower voltage, you turned it up past clipping, and if you didn't have the best gain settings before, that could do it...

No. Still wouldnt work. The lower voltage signal would make the amp operate as if it were at a lower volume and would actually be less likely to clip as the gain will now be set lower than it needs to be. You couldve turned it up enough for the output signal to clip but that wouldnt have hurt the tweeters, just your ears.
