Setting up RT2000i and RT800i as Main Speakers
Hello,
I require some assistance on how to setup my system, thanks in advance for all the help.
The speakers I want to use for my Mains are the RT2000i and the RT800i.
The receiver I will be using will be either Yamaha Rx-v2600 or the Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXVi (please weigh in on this too), both can do 7.1 but I just want to do 5.1. Should I use the Bi-amping, Bi-wiring features of the receivers, or just the A/B switch?
Not sure how to wire the 800 with the 2000.
Center is a CS400i
Rears are FX500i
And for now the sub is a PSW650, which will be getting replaced with a SVS.

Why do want 2 pair of mains? Or is one set for a zone 2 application?
-
The reason I want 2 Mains is I want more mid-range from the front. I had the rt2000i and just got the 800i to help.
I really only want the 800i for mid and treble, not the low frequencies, since I have the 2000i and soon the SVS for that.:D -
I don't know what the specs are for the receivers you mentioned, but you want to check them. It may not have the power to push all of those loads. While you will gain surface area, you will lose power to drive them.
As a rule, it's not generally done. You may start having cancellation issues due to the drivers being side by side. I'm not saying it can't be done, though. I have heard of people stacking speakers, and the avoid the cancellation.
Have you calibrated the system? How big is the room?
Some receivers have DSP modes for an extra set of fronts. My Sunfire has what is called "side axis", which are matrixed with the front mains. -
The Yamaha can handle 140 per channel. So 140 x 7 = 980. The Pioneer can do 130 per channel. So 130 x 7 = 910. Good enough?
Both the receivers have the capability to assign the surround as front for bi-amp or bi-wire
With that being said I was thinking I would set the receiver to bi-amp or bi-wire, and then use the one set of wires to the 2000i and on set for the 800i.
What do you think?
And yeah I thought of stacking the speakers also, I will see how it look and how sturdy it feels. I thought about the cancellation effect if they were side by side.
The room is 20*15.
Thanks again for all the responses. -
You might be better off selling both pair of mains and getting a pair of rt3000p speakers. these will do what your goal is.
-
ohhh ive looked but finding a pair in Canada is not easy. Shipping from the states would not be fun.

The RT2000's are cannons...lots of deep bass.
The RT800's sing....great mid and high end.....
as long as you have amps to drive them all adequately,
you essentially have RT3000's ....just not in one package.

Well, in that case if I were you, I'd hook up the RT800i as mains, hook up ONLY the subs on the RT2000i either through speaker wire or sub cables and go with that till you get the SVS.
Then when you have the SVS, move the RT2000i as a full range 2 channel speaker in another room!  -

Actually the Elite 74 has 140 wpc as well. The Elite 72 touts 130 wpc.
I have the 72 and couldn't be more satisfied. But the Yamaha has good reviews as wellPioneer Elite VSX-53, Polk RT800i fronts, Polk CS400i center, FX500i surround, Velodyne sub
