SDA 2 problem. First post

Hi,
I am new to the forum and to Polk Audio speakers. I was fortunate enough to get a pair of SDA 2's for free. I get popping at higher volumes out of one driver. I have run them through my Pioneer SX 1250 and my Yamaha A-1020 and had the same problem. I have read the post on popping at 1000 Watts and I know I wasn't clipping my amps, as I am familiar with their capabilities and wasn't at any excessive volume, and it's always the same driver. I have to assume that the voice coil is on it's way out.
My questions are:
1) it is doing it at levels I usually don't take it to. If I just use them at my normal levels, will I still get years of enjoyment out of them or is the driver still going to self destruct
2) I looked into buying a replacement driver or two on Ebay. I believe mine is a MW 6510. I've seen MW 6502's, 6503's, 6500's on Ebay but not the 6510. What are the differences in these drivers? Would any of these be a good replacement or do I need the 6510? How much are these to rebuild or replace with new ones? In short, what should I do. I don't want to spend a lot of money on them as things are a little tight right now.
Thanks

Welcome; you can get a new driver from Polk Customer Service for $48; just mention you are a CP member.

SDA 2's have several different type of drivers for stereo and dimensional in the SDA 2, SDA 2A and SDA 2B; since Polk was not very good at identifying their speakers (It might just say SDA 2 but be a SDA 2A or SDA 2B), I would suggest you take out that driver and see what you need.

    Thanks,
That's not a bad price at all. I assumed they would want several hundred dollars for one.

Welcome to Club Polk! Enjoy your SDA speakers! Did you get the SDA interconnect cable with your speakers? There is a lot of good information about your speakers on the Forum. Try using the search tool to find information on these speakers.

A lot of SDA owners have replaced the tweeters on these speakers with a new upgraded version that uses silk. The upgrade makes the hi frequences less harsh. There is a lot of discussion on the forum threads about these tweeters. There about $48 each. How many tweeters do you have in each cabinent?

It has 2 drivers and one tweeter in each cab and did come with the cable which makes a big difference, especially when the speakers are spread out far apart. I am amazed at the low end response. I don't really understand how 6 1/2" speakers can blow away my DCM 12" speakers which are known for good bass response, but they absolutely kill them. I am pretty amazed with these speakers and I got them with a bunch of other gear (which I've sold most of for $200) all for $90, so I am up a cd player, Polks, and close to $100 profit on the deal. Do the SDA's with more drivers sound a lot better or are they just louder? Mine are plenty loud for my taste.
