Well after a month of not liking these as much as i did my M40's in the front, i finally figured out why. I re-hooked a 40 in the front and realized that they sounded brighter, and apearantly i prefer this sound. So i just adjusted the treble in stereo mode on the M70's and voila...brighter sound(very close to the 40's actually) but louder. Done deal. And to think i was going to go and trade these puppies straight across for another set of 40's.

Wait... so did you have the M40s trebled up?
I'm not really for eq.. and spiking the treble up is an eq.... maybe you should go M40s all the way?

hey, they're his speakers and his ears.. if he likes a little bit more treble on top.. more power too him. I have some slight hearing loss. so I too require a bit more treble. Although I don't adjust the treble or bass knob.. i attain more treble thru other means.. namely higher quality interconnects. Ones that offer that slight bit more brightness.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

No i didn't have the 40's trebled up...that's what i can't figure out...but all i know is i liked the sound of them better than the M70's flat. And i already bought the 70's so it doesn't make sense to sell them and take a bath to get another pair of 40's. I was wondering if there was another way to brighten up those 70's rather than bumping up the treble. But for now it seems to be a little more pleasing to the ear. ps. I think i might have ruined my ears a little with my car stereo....i roll pretty loud .Onkyo TX NR 5008 modified by The Upgrade Company

what does the rest of your gear consist of? what receiver, CDP, etc. More curious than anything. an external amp might be in your future if you aren't already using one.. that would make those 70's sound better.. and sometimes interconnects can help too.
I have a pair of SDA SRS's. i just replaced the tweeters in. with the new and improved ones. Once in and stuff.... the highs were to tame for my liking. Yeah I could turn up the treble and make is sound ok.. but then some other music would sound really bad, to much treble. Basically, I didn't want to have to adjust the treble knob every time another song came on.
So i instead went from copper wire interconnets to a silver wire based interconnect.. and wha la !! the treble clairity was back.. with out me having to adjust any of my knobs. Not only did it bring out more treble, it added more flavor if you will to the highs. I'm a big believer in matching the right interconnects and/or speaker cables with the right gear.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

i have a denon 3805 bi-amped mains and a cheap toshiba dvd player via toslink. Would like to upgrade that to a dedicated cdp but due to the WAF i don't think it'll happen too soon unless i can get something decent for a few hundred bucks.Onkyo TX NR 5008 modified by The Upgrade Company

Jay,
I think what you are hearing is a more balanced speaker with the M70s. Those have a much cleaner midrange than the M40s and perhaps this "thin" sound of the M40s is what makes you think that the treble is better on the 40s.
Listen carefully and try to listen to how much better the 70s are balanced relative to the 40s.
Please man... dont use the treble knob... please.Magico M2, JL113v2x2, EMM, ARC Ref 10 Line, ARC Ref 10 Phono, VPIx2, Lyra Etna, Airtight Opus1, Boulder, AQ Wel&Wild, SRA Scuttle Rack, BlueSound+LPS, Thorens 124DD+124SPU, Sennheiser, Metaxas R2R -

k..i'll give it a whirl..but to be honest with you i haven't listened to many other set-ups..and probably cannot properly pick out the better balance. I upgraded from a set of bottom line sony's so all i know is that the polks sound a helova pile better but for some reason i figured the 40's were a little sharper.Onkyo TX NR 5008 modified by The Upgrade Company
