Hey, im having such a hard decision with my towers, what would sound better the rti 8s with a psw505 sub or the rti10s with a psw505 sub. The big question is that if i have the psw505 i do not need a lot of bass from the towers, so what would sound better?

What's your listening preference? HT, music, gaming (50%/25%/25%?)?

Depending your preferences you must choose the correct towers.
My current new system (step by step :D)

    A/V Receiver: YAMAHA RX-V657
    DVD Player: YAMAHA DVD-S657
    Main Towers: polkaudio® Monitor 50
    Wiring: NeoTecH KS1007 OFC High Definition Speaker Cable ( 2 x 2.64 mm² )

What do you plan on driving these towers with, and do you plan to run them on "large"? If your setting them to small and setting the crossover point at 80Hz both speakers will have similar low end output, making the case for the 8's. While the 10's are capable of digging lower than the 8's, without the proper amplification it will never be realized. If your using a receiver I suggest getting the 8's and let the 505 carry the low end.

I would be using a receiver, but if i were to use an amp what would that cost me?

    This is a loaded question.
An external amp will cost between <$1.00 used to >$500,000.00 somewhere in the world.
Go listen to them and see which ones you like, pay attention to how they are hooked up in the store and note the difference between their set up and yours.
When you get them home see how you like them with your system and upgrade as necessary.

The 8's will sound better. If you are using a good sub the low end of the 10's becomes a moot point. Many feel the 8's just sound better overall anyways, but not all... And Im sure im not the only one saying this but at the risk of giving you an answer your not looking for, get an SVS, not a polk sub. Their much higher quality for a better price. Go 8's with an SVS.

I have the RTi8's and have never once felt I was missing anything from my HT. You won't regret it, just get a super good sub!

Do you think the polk psw505 would do the job?

If you don't already have the PSW505, is sounds like you would get more sub for your money going with an SVS. I've actually never heard one, but they are quite popular here. I have a Velodyne that I listened to in comparison to a Polk and Infinity sub at similar price points and the Velo blew the others away whether it was music or movie. I am very happy with my Velo. I haven't heard HSU either but they are highly recommended on this forum. I'm sure others will chime in about SVS and HSU......

...I should have read the entire post...didn't see the SVS recommendation above....

I can tell you the response you will get from almost everyone on the forum.

Polk does not make good subs!!! (comparitively)

Now, the next thing people are going to tell you is that you should get an SVS.

I personally would agree. I recently upgraded from my PSW303 to a SVS 20-39 PCi. There is no comparison. I would asume the 505 is similar. If you dont already have the 505 spend $100 more and get yourself and SVS. Your saveing some money going with the RTi8's anyway. E-mail teh guys at SVS and they will happily help you choosing the right one. Great guys great service. Send em an e-mail!
