Surround Bar/Sub Phase

Just purchased a Surround Bar and a 505 sub. I have the sub connected to the left and right front speaker inputs on a Yamaha HTR-5890 receiver.
I've hooked the black wires from the Surround Bar to the negative terminals on the receiver (red, blue, green, etc. to the postive terminals). Is this correct? It shouldn't matter as long as it's consistent among each connection from the Surround Bar...
I also have the two connections from the Sub. Would it make any difference if the sub is out of phase with the Surround Bar? The current sound quality is fantastic. I'm just trying to understand the impact of having the Surround Bar wired backwards.
Thanks,
Will

If the sub is about the same distance from your seating as the bar, they should be wired in phase. Wiring out of phase works when the distance changes so that time alignement is an issue and sound cancellations occur. It doesn't hurt to wire anything out of phase, it simply means that when one speaker is moving out the other is moving inward thus 2 speakers in the same plane tend to cancel each other when out of phase.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable
