Last night I am watching the Rachman vs. Toney fight on HBO. Was highly looking forward to it because I have not seen a good heavyweight bout in a long time.
So the fight begins and it started off pretty good, both fighters are going toe-to-toe and putting in some great punches. First round ends and I think to myself...hmmmm this could be good.
Round two starts and it gets even better than round one. Both fighters are unwilling to give up their ground so they are set to just stand there and see who can take the best punches. It was great.
Round three, now the fight ends for me. See everytime I watch a big bout like this I tend to look at the crowd behind the boxers to see who is there celebrity wise. Why? I have no clue but I do it. So I am scanning the crowd, and I notice a fella look straight up. And he is staring straight up, then I see him elbow his friend next to him and he points up. His friend looks up and they both start waving. Not a peace sign, not a a little shake of the hand but both arms up like they are trying to flag down the last taxi of the night. So I just chuckle, but then the row behind them sees it and they start doing it. This goes on all round 3.
Round 4 kicks in same two buffons doing the taxi wave. All 4 rows behind them start in, and they are all waving. And all I could think is "wtf am I watching? The WWE?" This goes on all round. And it was impossible to tune out. These people were acting like idiots. Then the rows ahead of these guys catch on and they start doing it. The whole effing section is doin it. No one (including me) is watching the fight. They are all starring straight up.
Now the fun REALLY begins. Buffoon one and two are at it again at the start of round 5. EXCEPT NOW they have their damn cell phones glued to their ears and talking to their idiot mates, all waving at the camera, all starring straight up, and all not watching the fight. Everyone grabs their cell phone and starts doing it, and if they did not have one, they were borrowing their friends cell phones.
So this goes on into the sixth round, and I figure the novalty will wear off. Nope the whole damn fight. Yep twelve rounds of watching stupid people pine for the camera, jump up and down for the camera (yes two guys were doing that), all with their cell phones stapped to their stupid shaped heads.
I think Rachman won, or it was a draw or something. I was so mentally tired from all the things I was thinking to do to these people it was just down right disturbing.

BTW, I'm a big fan of Rich Franklin and George St. Pierre. Bad asses!Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

UFC AND PRIDE fighting are the only way to go. the way they train and dish out and take abuse go unrivaled. match equal sized fighters and the boxer will get trampled every time. sports are evolving. xtreme sports are in. football will forever remain, baseball......eh. but when comparing traditional boxing to mma, there is no comparison. franklin, couture, and yes, st. pierre are bad-asses. grown tired of matt hughes.

and in keeping with the flow of the thread, ufc fans don't do what was described in the first post. at least not during a fight. too intense. like when tim silvia had his forearm snapped. ouch....wave to the cameras. not.

I'm not sick of Hughes yet, but I am sick of his attitude. I just love watching him slam people around so I can't get totally sick of him yet. But I'm considering putting a little money on him when he goes up against Gracie... Royce is the man but he's older now.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

But I have to say I do miss some good ol' boxing once in a while. I DVR'd a boxing event on ESPN Classic the other day (last night maybe) with Tyson's greatest hits. I have to admit, the feeling he gave you when he stepped in the ring. Hell yeah! This was only Vol. 1 of the series, I'm waiting to watch more as he gets older (again and more knowledgable of the sport). Talk about entertainment!Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

If, no, WHEN Gracie goes to the ground, it's all over but the shouting.

hughes is a punk and I think/hope he will under estimate Gracie. Gracie is not as old as some are making him out to be, Couture is older. If Matt takes it serious I think he will win. UFC rules also work against Gracie as he is use to taking his time to winMatthew

"Was highly looking forward to it because I have not seen a good heavyweight bout in a long time."
I think that is the key here. I once liked the fights. I stopped listening to fights when Cassis Clay won against Sonny Liston in Maine. Sonny wouldn't come out of his corner. It's all fake, just like wrestling. Get a life. -
I've felt all professional sports should've been banned or outlawed a long time ago. Just thugs raking in a lot of cash, no matter what. NBA. NFL, major league baseball, etc. It's the same everywhere you look.

But, but, but....Boxing is the SWEET SCIENCE!

There are no sports heroes anymore. Look at Ted Williams body, who hit over 500 home runs and batted life time average of around 350 and compare it to the local athetes and ask whos on steroids. Dah.
