I am building a home theater in my basement, so will be moving all my equipment down there in the next few months. My wife, of course, is very happy about this since it will free up space in the living room.

Now, in the living room I may put and EDTV LCD over the fireplace for. To go along with it I would like to have stereo sound (no need, or space for surround in this setup). I am goign to leave my audio rack in the corner of the room and use my JVC receiver in the living room also (HK635 going downstairs)

Trying to make a long story short... I am looking for some recommendations on low cost options to put some very small speakers on the mantle beside the TV and maybe a small (wife friendly) sub in the corner.

Budget - as low as possible and still have 'decent' sound for occasional music playing.

Any ideas?

Cambridge Soundworks is having a blow-out sale if you're talking about buying new. Some of the "Newton" line is included. 10 year warranty on top of that.

Outlaw LFM-2 is a cute sub. The glossy top makes it more attractive than most box subs. The Athena subs at audioadvisor are OK looking and are quite cheap...

Any polk options (maybe used) for the left and right speakers?

Any options that might not require a sub?

I've concentrate so much on putting together a decent HT regardless of the space it took up I have no idea what decent small (tiny even) speakers options there might be out there with 'ok' sound quality. I thought about trying to wire some in-walls to go on either side of the new TV, but the wiring project might be a little too ambitious for me.

I need to minimize space here to keep the wife happy.
