Last upgrade it seems...

Well forum buddies, seems my last big purchase was my last for quit some time. My last purchase in case some don't know will be here on Tuesday, the 21st of March which is my new Sanyo PLV-Z4 720P projector, a 92" Dia. Elite fixed mount screen, the projector mount and a bunch of accessories including two extra lamps to get her hooked up. It was fun while it lasted but all good things must come to a end (at least for know:D ).

After having a long talk with my wife the other night it seems I really pushed the wrong button after my purchase. I guess the fact that not even a year ago I purchsed the Mitsubishi 62", 1080P DLP and know the projector, if I keep it up at this rate I won't have a place to live. Anyone else have this ADDICTION. I had mentioned it to her that I had planned on buying it but I guess the fact that I got pretty much the whole setup for under $2100 just seemed like something I couldn't pass up so in the process it never occured to me she was going to be pissed. You would think after being married to her for 10 years this coming June I would have picked up on it but did I, NOPE.

I was under the impression that if I sold the 53" Pioneer upstairs first, which is being picked up at the end of the month and then moved the Mitsubishi upstairs, which she has said she wanted since we bought it, it should all be good, boy was I wrong. I've offered to send the projector back but her comment was she didn't want to be a nagging wife or prevent me from buying what I want but like she said, and I totally agree with her, my hobbies are EXPENSIVE.

So, to sum this all up, how else does everyone deal with this addition. My wife said she wants me to keep everything because she wants the Mitsubishi upstairs (go figure) but I guess I need to learn better self control.:) All in all everything between us is fine but I bet I won't be ordering another damn thing for quit some time.:( But atleast I'll still have my loving wife a kids and a warm bed to sleep inn.

Hopefully you 2 can reach an amicable compromise so you can still be happy with your hobby as well as your family. :(

Well Grimster, you seem to have learned a very important lesson, and you are taking the right attitude about it.

I was asking myself what your wife's problem was, right up until the point in which you said you JUST bought a new tv a yr ago! Then I understood her anger. I would have been pissed too!

I understand that it is lots of fun buying new toys to play with, but at some point enough is enough. Especially if you have other more important responsibilities.

Enjoy your system & force yourself to be content with it. Sit down & enjoy it with your wife & kids & be grateful that your wife has been so understanding.

A compromise has already been reached! He can keep what he's got with NO new additions! And your statement SHOULD read "So you can be happy with your FAMILY as well as your hobby!"

It's all about priorities. As long as you are comfortable with your decision, so be it. I too love audio and many other things, but I have a family and they come first. That is my priority. Good luck.

Consider yourself lucky, many guys have been shut down waaaaayyyyy before 2 widescreen TVs and a projector. Your room is top notch anyway and just enjoying it now with simple tweaks is half the fun. Congrats on the projector as I have always thought your room cried out for it.

Ah, forget about what your wife says. The reality is that she loves your toys as much as you do and wants you to splurge, but she will never, never admit it, so she has to nag you about it. Hell, you offered to send the projector back, but she wants you to keep it?? And she's always wanted the DLP upstairs which is now gonna happen. What does that tell ya?

Next time you talk to her, tell her to invite her girlfriends over the house next weekend for a movie marathon, then rent her a few of those girlie movies she likes. When they come over, you go out to the nudie bar with the fellas, get drunk and have a nice time. The next day your wife will forget about those purchases and you can begin planning your next upgrade.

Just take time to enjoy what you have and stop upgrading. I swear I spend more time planning my next move and looking for deals than I do sitting down and getting my listen on.

Ignore Early's advise Grim, otherwise, you will find yourself out on the street with just your toys to keep you company!

It means the same thing, so please -- all reasonable people know family comes first.

A copromise obviously hasn't been reached. I get sick and tired of women stomping on a guys balls just because he's married. He should also get some enjoyment out of his life beyond just his family. He needs his own space and to do his own things. It makes the rest of life and enjoying his family that much sweeter. She should also have that ability and those kinds of hobbies. It would be one thing if money was being spent on things they can't afford.

If you read the last sentence in the 3rd paragraph of Grim's post, it sounds like it IS matter of money. Unless they are rich & have a money tree in the backyard, All those purchases do add up on top of the everyday bills.

I'm not trying to bust anyone's balls, but some people just don't know or have enough common sense of when to stop. Listening to some people on this board makes it seem that they don't even know what the word reasonable means.

Well, just want to set some things straight that maybe I didn't clarify on earlier. My wife and kids are always first, never a day in my life have I put something before them. As far as money goes, by no means are my wife and I hurting, she's a vet and I'm an engineer. I think what sets her off the most is my wanted to upgrade all the time and having all the other stuff just sitting around the house doing nothing or if I sell it, taking a loss on it. As far as my wife and I go, it's all good between us she just stressed the fact that she would rather me stop buying things and then setting them aside and them not getting any use. But, its all good. And beleive me, she will get even by bringing another animal home of some sort.
