Just upgraded !!! Hook up questions

I just bought a new Marantz reciever (sr7500) wich is an upgrade from my current Onkyo tx-sv424 pro-logic set up. Now, my new reciever has digital inputs for my cd player. Is the digital cable better over the analog connection? I also understand that by using the digital cable I am bypassing the D/A converter in the cd player and using the D/A converter in the Marantz. My cd player is a Denon DCM-460. How much improvment can be expected? Also is the digital cable different from the rca cables I am currentlty using? They look the same. Its been 10 years or so since I last upgraded. Thanks for your input. Mike

Two types of digital cables both do the same thing. Coaxial cable and optical, one used traditional copper the other light to carry the signals. A regular copper rca can be substituted for the coax but I dont recommend it.

Yes you have it right about the DAC question. If you are doing 5.1 Dolby or DTS processing you will need to use the digital cables, for analog music no. You have to decide for music which sounds better and use the appropriate cable.

    Congrats on your new receiver.
