Just some quick initial thoughts. The 2910 looks much better "in-person" than it does in photos, very elegant appearance. The front panel, which I assumed was plastic, is in fact aluminum.

I don't have an HDTV nor does my tv have component video inputs, so the 2910 is hooked up via S-Video cable. Setup was quick & easy. I threw in a CD first, just to verify that I had everything configured correctly---good to go. More specifics on that next week. I'm using the coax dig out into my Benchmark DAC for CD's and for movie audio.

Threw in LOTR II, again, just to verify I had picture and everything was working correctly. Picture is very nice, but I hate comment too much on it because of the limitations of my tv (no progressive scan, no component inputs, etc.). But what I did see via S-Video looked extremely nice. Later this year when I get my 50" DLP, I'll be able to get into more details about the 2910's video performance. I really like the 4-level dimmable display, great for removing the distracting display while watching movies in the dark.

Seems as though you're going to be 'tickled to death' with it. I certainly hope so.

Even out of the S-Video, I was very impressed with the color/fine detail and contrast.

I'll start some critical listening tonight...

I like the picture and sound quality of the Denon players a lot. I have a DVD-3800. Shadow detail is outstanding, and as you've already noticed, it does a great job with audio.

Unfortunately, I've had some problems with mine, it has broken twice already, so I replaced it with an Oppo unit in my HT. I figure I'll wait until some HD units come out before I drop big bucks on another DVD player. In the meantime, I'll probably get the 3800 repaired and use it as a CD player in the study.
