RTA 8T - Are they shielded?

Dumb question from a newbie: I have access to a pair of RTA 8Ts. Are they shielded, or should I keep them away from the TV?
(I know they're not top of the line, but they are Polks.)
thanks in advance
Rufus

They are very nice speakers! Welcome to the forum!

    No, those aren't shielded.

I'm pretty sure they are Troy. Mine are less than 2 ft away from my tv & there is no problem

I'm with Troy, not shielded. I don't think any of the RTA's are. Too early for the HT craze. Cathy, I have my AR-9's fairly close to a monitor also, with no picture degradation. Guarantee the magnets on the 12" AR-9 woofs are a tad more powerful than the 8t's. I think we're just lucky, or the distance is JUST enough.

    Welcome Rufus,

The RTA's have no shielding unless someone did it themselves. I believe Polk customer service still offers a shielding magnet for $5 if you want to do glue it on yourself.

Turn your TV on and If you see any waves or color distortion on your TV picture, move the speakers away. Sometimes elevating your TV a few inches will work as a solution.

LOL Well now there are definitive answers! WAAA!:D

Rufus, just put them where you want them to be. If the tv distorts,

    MOVE THEM!:D :D:D

    Oh yeah, Welcome!:)

They were my first pair of Polks about 20 years ago and I still have them.

    Enjoy

Unless unshielded speakers are very close, the gaussing of a TV tube is not necessarily evidenced by instant distortion. Its effects can be very subtle until over time a discoloration emerges. Over a period of months, my SRS's gradually chewed into a TV several years ago.

Most contemporary TV's go through a degaussing cycle when turned on, but these aren't 100% effective.
