This might get locked or deleted but I thought I'd share this story.

Looks like the "moment of silence" is just so offensive it must be removed from schools. Now THIS is intolerance.

Respect should never be offensive, nor should teaching it.
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

I've decided to be happy when stories like this come out. As they keep getting more and more ridiculous, eventually all of this ridiculousness HAS to come to a head. The majority will get fed up eventually with the minority being offended at every **** in the wind.

    {The law, passed in 2003, allows children to "reflect, pray, meditate or engage in any other silent activities" for one minute after the American and Texas pledges at the beginning of each school day}

So, if I were a Texas student, does the letter of this law entitle me to a silent, non-contact, dry hump of a hot girl, or better yet, the teacher? Technically speaking, it falls into the "other silent activities" category.

Boy, this could open a huuuge can 'o worms for the school, from a proper smartass......heh heh heh:cool:

if the moment of silence isn't for a moment of prayer, then why was the moment of silence there to begin with?

maybe it is a way to get prayer into schools. sure seems that way to me. it's not like someone just died or anything.

(edit) they tried the moment of silence thing in Wilkes County schools a couple of years ago and it was obvious what the real intentions were. If the above link isn't the case, fine.

Allowing and forcing are two different things. Should the teacher tell the student to be quiet and "pray"? Absolutely not. What's wrong with making kids be quiet for 60 seconds and "allowing" a silent prayer? Does seeing someone with their head bowed and eyes closed for 60 seconds offend you?

Some Jewish people choose to wear a yarmulka. Most schools have a "no hat" rule. Should the yarmulka be allowed? Why not? Its not hurting anyone.

sure, but are the teachers just saying "let's have a moment of silence" to a bunch of impressionable school kids or is it "let's have a moment of silence to do such and such".

i mean really. You tell a group of 3rd graders to have a moment of silence and they think they're being put into a corner.

there has to be a reason.

there has to be a reason.

the people who file these kind of lawsuits say they worried about their "impressionable" kids.

If they were anywhere close to half-decent parents something as small as a "moment of silence" would not concern them, regardless of their religious beliefs because their parenting would override something so small. I guarantee you deep down these parents are pissed off that other kids are allowed to pray at school and don't want them to be able to. It has nothing to do with their own kids.

People hiding behind the guise of the 'Minute of silence' is ultimately what they have the problem with. Call it a minute of prayer since that's why it's there to begin with, but then they're going to get sued for having prayer in school, which is why they got rid of it in the first place.

The problem isn't entirely the parents. It's a system that has been legislated to the level it has been.

It's cases like this that I laugh at because it's funny to see people getting irked at something that hits remotely close to home when they're otherwise OK with other people being legislated against......

I love how everyone is all bent out of shape about the rights of the two or three atheists being infringed upon somehow, just by telling htem to be quiet and respect the 95% of kids who DO believe in prayer. I'ts a moment of silence, so you can choose to do whatever you want, the reason you have to be silent is to RESPECT the rights of those who DO want to pray, and let them do so in peace. Is that really so wrong?

as soon as the teacher said the P word, it openned a sh*tstorm. They should genuinly be afflicted with something that will give them more to worry about. if this is there biggest worry, then life has been waaaaaaaaaay to easy. Maybe I'm just in a cruel mood today.

I'm not religous, not by a long shot. you wanna pray, knock yourself out. people that complain about it deserve a righteous bitchslap.

And you wonder why a lot of kids are so effed up in the head these days!?!

Not so long ago we prayed in school, we said the Pledge of Allegiance, we said yes sir and no sir, boys and girls flirted, boys got into fights, when the teacher said sit, we sat, we had PE every day, we did not get graded on a curve so that everyone passed and didn't get their little feelings hurt. We were allowed to be kids.

Now, we've got no spiritual direction, no acknowledgement of our country and what it stands for, no respect, sexual harassment charges, assault charges, an entitlement attitude, an obesity and apathy problem the likes of which has never been seen before, people who can't make change without a machine telling them how and kids shooting other kids in schools!!! Oh yeah, we've got ADD/ADA and whatever else you want to call kids being kids.

We got to this point because we let a few minority voices carry more weight than the majority and just look at how **** up it's become. It's time to tell the minority voices to sit down and STFU, it's time to stand up and be heard.
