Just wondering what your thoughts are on this tube to those who have used them in their equipment.
It's probably the best your money can buy when it comes to new production, IMO.
I've rolled quite a few U7's in my pre amp(current production and NOS). Mullard, RFT, ECG Philips 5814 and EH. The Mullard is my favorite but pricey at $40 a tube. Now, this JJ sounds the closest to the Mullard. Very rich and warm sound. The highs have a nice sparkle too.
So for the money, JJ is probably the best U7 I've rolled.
Anybody have anything to add?
Maurice

Raytheon 7730 and JAN / Sylvania 6189 Black Plates are my big U7 players.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

I'll remember those. If I see some cheap on the bay, I'll probably give them a shot. So far, from all the u7's I've tried on my ASL, I like JJ the most. But I guess there's really no point of me rolling anymore U7's now that the GTA is fixed.

Hi,
I have had a TAD 150 Sig for a while now and have found the NOS RCA 5814 Black plates work best so far. The Electro-Harmonics are very good also but the RCA's have a bit more midrange clarity. I have a pair of Brimars but find they have too much cymble on the top. I have used 12ATWA VTL Ei, 12au7 JJ, 12at7WA/M, GE 6201. The JJ are good but a little bright for me. It seems most of the tubes I have used are too bright. I will be changing amps this week. Sold the Van Alstine and ebayed a B&K st 202. I hope it will help mellow things out. I would like to try telefunken and amperex tubes but dont wont to pay $50 and up for a pair to find out they are not for me. I had a NOS RCA tube go harmonic on me yesterday. Thought it was one of the DIY ICs but bumped the preamp and heard it in the left speaker. That was the first bad tube issue I have had so far. So paying a pile of $ for a tube to go south doesnt feel good.Main system: Lyngdorf TDAI 2170 w/ Pioneer 42" plazma-> Polk LSiM 703 w/Tivo, Marantz tuner, BRPTT: Nothingham Spacedeck-> Pioneer PL L1000 linear arm-> Soundsmith DL 103R-> SUT->Bottlehead ErosDigital: I3 PC w/ Jriver playing flac -> Sonore Ultrarendu -> Twisted Pair Audio ESS 9028 w/ Mercury IVY Vinyl rips: ESI Juli@24/192-> i3 PC server -

$14 apiece....$16 apiece with balanced triodes. I've only tried Bugle Boys and RCA clear tops so far but I definitely keep going back to these. I'd like to try the JJ's though.
I've ordered lots of tubes from Doug and he's a good place to buy.
