RT7's how much power
I'm looking at a set of rt7's after reading great things about them. My question is will my amp be sufficient to power them. I'm running a new Onkyo 573 with 75w/ch.

My first instinct would be to say, "Well, how much power can you afford?" I like having lots of reserve power. Most speakers do, too, BUT...
Truth be told, the RT7's are very efficient and if you don't listen at really loud levels, your receiver should be perfectly adequate. If you can listen at the levels you want to acheive, and don't hear distortion, you're probably okay from the speaker welfare point-of-view. Now you might (will) get better sound quality by going with a good power amp, but there are more factors at play there than just Watts.
I think you'll be fine. And the RT7's are great speakers.

They really are great speakers. The 573 should be ok. Mine are nearly ten years old and I've not seen fit to part with them yet. I used to power them with a 80 wpc TX-SR600 (Onkyo). They sounded good. However, I really like how they sound with the VSX-1015TX.

Thanks jcaut. I am on a very limited budget. I'd love to spend tons of money on my sound system but both my wallet and my wife can't take it. So I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck. I'm sure I'll always be telling myself "I like my HT system....but if only I'd spent $**** more.

Marko, unless you would be listening at very loud levels to source material which has a very wide dynamic range your 573 should have more than enough power for your RT7s. Polk rates the RT7s at 89dB sensitivity, which means that 1 watt will give that sound level(fairly loud, actually louder than most use for an average listening level)at a 1 meter distance. Taking into account both the direct and reverberent sound, you'll also get that 89dB for 1 watt at typical 10-15' listening distances. 75 watts would allow for brief peaks about 19dB higher, i.e. 108dB. It's very unlikely that more than that would be needed, so you should be fine.

Well I've gone and done it. I bought a pair of RT7's today on ebay. Now I sit back and wait the eteran wait for them to arrive. This is my first pair of Polks. Hope I've done the right thing. I'm gonna catch it from the wife now I'll tell ya.
