 i have the Polkaudio PSW12 picked it up 4 days ago .

running it off my onkyo 803 i hear a humming noise out of the sub if i put my ear up near the speaker , this happends with the recvier on or off

i tried a different wall outlett as well it didint help , even with the digital coax cable not connected i hear this hum and it gets louder if i turn up the sub vol on the back of the sub.

is this normal at all , i only hear it if i place my ear close the the speaker itself, but even does it with no cables connected so i am confused, i tried it on the filtered line as well as unfiltered with a power y-0cable as well.

any info ?

I have the same exact problem from my RM6800 subwoofer (hooked up to a Onkyo 503). I can only hear the noise if I put my ear real close to the box.
I have the sub set up according to polk recommendations. While I don't consider it a nuisance, I am concerned that I'm taxing the subwoofer, and paying Mr. Electricity more than I should.

** Since this is my 1st post, I just want to say that I LOVE this RM6800 system. My son and I watched Star Wars Episode II last night, and It absolutely blew me away!

peteran i dont se hwop it could be a ground issue , i only have 2 prongs on my sub cable , it humms when it has no cable plugged in and also tried it in 3 different outletts, went to future shop tested there demo same thing.

went to visions and there demo was the same , exchanged my sub for anotehr and it was the same to . i now gbelive the psw12 has a humming noise, but only time u hear it is when when u put your ear right up to the speaker.

Maybe then you should call POLK and see what they have to say.

Sounds like it's the built-in amp of the PSW12. Mine is very quiet, but you have to put your ear right on the grill in order to hear it. Yeah, that's normal; it doesn't affect the sound quality. Enjoy!
